One of your initial optional tasks in Avowed is titled “Exploring the Vital Terrain.” You obtain this task from Sanza within Paradis after completing a few key storyline missions initially. Sanza relies on a mapmaker named Geirmund who has vanished somewhere in Dawnshore, and she asks you to locate him or any remnants of him.
In contrast to other side quests in Avowed, Mapping the Living Lands doesn’t provide a marker on your map, making it challenging to locate the cartographer, Geirmund. Although you could spend some time wandering aimlessly searching for him, checking out the guide below will significantly simplify your task.
Dawnshore Cartographer‘s location in Avowed
Sanza only tells you that Geirmund is located to the east of Paradis, close to a cave. If you’ve already traversed much of Dawnshore, this hint could be useful. However, if your map is still largely obscured, this general description may not provide much assistance.
For a more straightforward journey, take note that the location of the Dawnshore Cartographer is roughly marked on the map image provided.
Notice that the Dawnshore cartographer lies just above the Usher’s Hand region, which is a short walk east of Paradis’ walls. However, if you head straight to Usher’s Hand, you’ll encounter a steep cliff that needs to be climbed in order to get to the cartographer’s exact location.
In the heart of the exploration zone, directly at the God’s Gate rapid travel marker, you’ll find Geirmund. Unfortunately, he’s not moving – he’s deceased, resting by a big stone pillar. Near his remains, you’ll spot an essential quest item called “Geirmund’s Map.” Grab it to advance in the “Mapping the Living Lands” mission within Avowed.
With Geirmund’s map in hand, make your way back to Sanza in Paradise and deliver him the unfortunate news regarding his cartographer. Though Geirmund is deceased, there are still skilled cartographers scattered throughout the Living Lands who can be discovered as you continue your journey through other maps within Avowed. These individuals form part of the Mapping the Living Lands quest, however, you won’t be able to access them until you have progressed further in the game and uncover additional maps.
