Right. Into. Our. Veins.
It’s understandable to feel a certain way after seeing the trailer, which shows an aged, bearded Magneto reflecting on mortality alongside his friend, Charles Xavier. The trailer also reveals the dilapidated remains of Xavier’s school, leaving viewers to wonder what happened and why the mutants are in such a difficult situation. The most captivating part of the trailer might offer a clue, and it also features James Marsden as Cyclops shouting during a fierce battle.
Does Cyclops’ yell hint at a future trip to Battleworld? While many expected to see that famous Marvel location between the movies Doomsday and Secret Wars, that might not be the case. The scene shows huge legs behind Cyclops, and it looks like Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters is in ruins. It’s likely Cyclops is battling – and struggling against – a Sentinel in that moment.
The previous trailers for the movie showed scenes from the beginning, so this new trailer probably does too. That suggests we’re seeing an X-Men fight with the Sentinels that happens early on, rather than a scene from a larger, more complex setting.
We’re eagerly anticipating the official reveal. Even with the challenges the Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced, it’s going to be difficult to not deliver a great return for Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as Professor X and Magneto.
