Avengers: Doomsday Writer Wants Glen Powell As Nova

Michael Waldron, the writer of *Avengers: Doomsday*, believes Glen Powell would be a fantastic choice to play Nova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Michael Waldron, the writer behind *Loki* and *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*, recently discussed potential new Marvel heroes during an appearance on the *Bingeworthy* podcast. He was asked who he thought would make a good cosmic hero for Marvel.

Waldron believes Powell would make a great pilot, similar to those seen in the movies *Top Gun: Maverick* and *Twisters*.

Waldron and Powell recently collaborated on the Hulu series *Chad Powers*, where Waldron was a writer and producer. They clearly enjoyed working together, and Waldron now hopes Powell will play a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically as a member of the Nova Corps.

The Long Road to Nova in the MCU

For years, Marvel has been working on a Nova project for television. The initial plan was a Disney+ series focusing on Richard Rider, the first Nova character. Sabir Pirzada, who wrote for *Moon Knight*, started developing it, and later Ed Bernero became showrunner. Early ideas suggested the show would be similar in tone to *Battlestar Galactica* and *Star Trek*, but it appears the project is currently on hold.

The biggest challenge appears to be money. Large-scale projects like these are costly, and Disney is now focusing more on less expensive streaming content, such as shows like *Daredevil: Born Again* and animated series.

There’s a growing belief that Marvel has paused or cancelled the Nova project. Instead of continuing with a series, they might introduce Nova in a movie, potentially as part of a larger plan to reboot their cosmic storylines after *Avengers: Doomsday*. This could eventually lead to a film adaptation of *Annihilation*, a story hinted at during the beginning of *Infinity War*.

Nova’s Return in Marvel Comics

Okay, so as a huge Marvel fan, this is awesome news! It looks like Nova – Richard Rider, the *real* Nova – is officially coming back in a new comic relaunch. Everyone’s been hoping for this for ages, and it’s finally happening! It’s just adding to all the buzz and excitement about what Marvel’s got planned.

Marvel has often used its comic book line to test ideas for upcoming film or TV projects.

The new *Nova* series might work similarly, helping Marvel determine if there’s enough fan enthusiasm to justify creating a live-action version within the Marvel Universe.
