Avengers: Doomsday: Will Doctor Doom Be Connected to Iron Man?

As a die-hard Marvel fan with over two decades of comic book reading under my belt, I can’t help but feel both exhilarated and skeptical about Robert Downey Jr.’s upcoming role as Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

1. Robert Downey Jr.’s announcement that he will play Doctor Doom in the Marvel universe has ignited diverse conversations online. Fans are debating the relevance of Doctor Doom’s character and its connection to Iron Man, given that Downey’s portrayal in the Infinity Saga and the establishment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is pivotal.

As an obsessed fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’ve pondered over the intricacies of their multiverse rules. It’s a thrilling world full of infinite possibilities, yet there’s one thing that seems to confuse us fans: the idea that the same actor cannot bring two distinct characters to life.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is not an Iron Man’s variant

At first, some fans were disappointed when Robert Downey Jr. was announced as Doctor Doom, assuming it would be a version of Tony Stark. But the Russo Brothers clarified that Doctor Doom would indeed be Victor Von Doom in the upcoming project. However, due to RDJ portraying both characters, there’s ongoing confusion among fans, who may not have fully grasped this distinction yet. Marvel Studios could have clarified this further in their latest production, Deadpool & Wolverine.

1. Chris Evans reprises his role as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch alongside Deadpool and Wolverine, a character from the 2005 Fantastic Four and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Known for portraying Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this film cleverly uses humor by having Deadpool assume Evans’ character is Captain America, only to be surprised when he discovers it’s actually The Human Torch – demonstrating the versatility of actors within the Marvel Multiverse.

1) Fans might think Doctor Doom, portrayed by Downey Jr., is somehow connected to Tony Stark (Iron Man), but this idea doesn’t stem from anything shown in the films. Instead, it seems more likely that Doctor Doom is an individual from a different universe with his unique backstory, distinct from Iron Man. His origins might be similar to The Fantastic Four, as suggested by the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s alteration of Ultron’s creator from Tony Stark to Hank Pym.

The issue with Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom

1. The news about Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ignited enthusiasm but also raised concerns among some fans. This decision is more daring compared to just reprising his role as Iron Man, like Hugh Jackman did with Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. Downey Jr.’s character transformation into Doctor Doom presents both an exciting opportunity and a risk, demonstrating the intriguing possibility of cross-character roles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As a die-hard fan of Doctor Doom, I can’t help but feel strongly about how he’s portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The idea of Doctor Doom having Romani origins has gained a lot of traction among fans, and it’s something that many of us are passionate about. But alas, Marvel Studios had other plans when they cast Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver.

1. Robert Downey Jr., who recently clinched an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (Oppenheimer), could unexpectedly take on the role of Doctor Doom. However, it’s important to note that rumors surrounding his Romani heritage are merely speculative. It’s worth considering that a Romani actor might not be portraying Doctor Doom in the upcoming movies. Here’s the schedule: “Avengers: Doomsday” is slated for release in May 2026, while “Fantastic Four: First Steps” is set to premiere on July 25, 2025.

Doctor Doom will likely be in Fantastic Four

In the comic series “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” the story is set in a retro-futuristic 1960s world. In this timeline, it’s suggested that Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Doctor Doom, makes his first appearance as an arch-nemesis to Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic. This implies that Doctor Doom, who will be featured in the upcoming stories “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” has a past connection with the Fantastic Four.

As a longtime Marvel comic fan and avid reader of the Fantastic Four series, I can confidently say that “Secret Wars” from 2015 held a special place in my heart. Despite being a massive Marvel crossover event, its core was undeniably a captivating Fantastic Four story. With Doctor Doom and Mister Fantastic at the helm, their complex history took center stage, making it an essential addition to the saga.

According to rumors, the final episode of Fantastic Four: First Steps may bring about the devastating destruction and loss of the Fantastic Four’s world within the multiverse. In the mid-credits scene of Avengers: Doomsday, their escape pod is reportedly seen opening on Battleworld. This revelation suggests that Doctor Doom was similarly affected by the destruction of their world, potentially fueling his determination to confront the Avengers in Avengers: Doomsday, followed by a reshaping of the Marvel Multiverse during Avengers: Secret Wars.
