We’ve learned some potentially huge spoilers for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, hinting at a devastating opening scene involving the destruction of worlds.
Interestingly enough, according to the rumors, we’ve already seen some of the footage.
Note: SPOILERS follow.

Avengers: Doomsday rumors
A wild new rumor about Avengers: Doomsday may signal the end for Tobey Maguire’s iconic Spider-Man.
A new report from Nerdrotic claims the movie starts with a big, action-packed scene involving multiple universes. Tobey Maguire briefly appears as Spider-Man, but is quickly killed off after Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds enter the scene.
This opening scene is said to establish the movie’s somber and intense mood. It apparently strives to surpass the impactful beginning of Marvel’s Infinity War, which famously showed Thanos eliminating Xandar, the Hulk, Thor, Heimdall, and Loki right away.

Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man vs Wolverine?
On their show, Gary Buechler and Chris Gore talked about a rumor claiming Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man shows up at the beginning of the movie, potentially with Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, but ultimately meets a tragic fate.
According to Buechler, each universe is isolated, and the fate of one impacts all others. He suggests that if a key figure like Tobey Maguire dies in one universe, that entire world ceases to exist.
Buechler adds, “And that is because of the X-Men.”
This reveal would be a huge surprise: it suggests the X-Men, especially Wolverine and Deadpool as played by Ryan Reynolds, are the reason a beloved Marvel universe was destroyed.
An outside rumor has also claimed Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine kills Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.

Is Cyclops Fighting Spider-Man?
Adding to the excitement, Gore highlighted a moment already shown in the trailers: Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, taking off his glasses and firing his powerful optic blast.
“Who is he fighting?” Gore asks.
“Not the Sentinels,” Buechler responds.
Gore answers, “Spider-Man.”
This suggests Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man could battle not only Wolverine, but also Cyclops and the entire X-Men team. This raises big questions about just how divided the Marvel universes are when the movie starts.

Feige Nearly Nixed Spider-Man’s Involvement
According to Buechler, there was a point – around the time of the controversial “chairs promo” – when it almost didn’t include Spider-Man. His source said Kevin Feige was reportedly unwilling to work with Sony, which would have meant Spider-Man being left out of the movie entirely.
It seems the initial decision about Maguire was changed, and he was not only brought back into the story but also featured prominently to highlight the serious threat of the multiverse falling apart.

Doctor Doom Destroys the Marvel Universe
And just when you thought there couldn’t be any more surprises, Buechler reveals that Doctor Doom is predicted to be the one who eventually brings about the end of the entire Marvel Universe.
This aligns with previous speculation that Avengers: Doomsday will bring together all the chaos from the multiverse, ultimately leaving Doctor Doom as the final enemy before the story continues with the new Avengers: Secret Wars timeline.

Marvel Aiming to Top Infinity War
“They’re swinging for the fences on this one,” Buechler claims.
Those working on the new Avengers: Doomsday movie are aiming to make it even more emotionally powerful and grand in scope than Infinity War. This likely explains the rumors that several major, beloved characters – and the actors who play them – might meet shocking and tragic ends.
Avengers: Doomsday gets released on December 18, 2026.
