The newest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday gives us our first look at the X-Men within the Marvel Cinematic Universe! And it’s the classic team many fans grew up with – Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops. In a moment fans have anticipated for 25 years, we see Cyclops wearing his iconic costume from X-Men: The Animated Series as he cries out in pain, with the X-Mansion destroyed around him. He’s unleashing a powerful energy blast at the same time. We believe this scream is connected to the events in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Sadie Sink’s character, and other clues from the Doomsday trailers seem to support this idea.
The recent teasers for upcoming Marvel movies all seem to be highlighting the theme of parenthood. The Captain America teaser revealed Steve Rogers has a child, while the Thor teaser centered on Thor and his daughter, Love. Those who’ve seen the teaser for the fourth movie, Doomsday, say it involves the Fantastic Four searching for their son, Franklin. This has led to speculation that Doctor Doom might be kidnapping the children of superheroes for his own purposes. Could Cyclops be dealing with the abduction of his child, and if so, which one? Our theory connects this to Marvel’s other 2026 film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Since Sadie Sink, known for her role in Stranger Things, joined the cast of Brand New Day, fans have been speculating about her character. Initially, many thought she’d be playing Jean Grey from the main Marvel universe, appearing before the planned X-Men reboot. However, another popular theory suggests she’s Rachel Summers, the teenage daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey. This connection could explain reports that Sink will also appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. Rachel Summers is a long-standing character in Marvel comics, originally from the bleak future depicted in Days of Future Past. After escaping that timeline, she traveled to the past and attended Xavier’s School, keeping her true parentage a secret from Scott Summers and Jean Grey for years. Like her mother, Rachel possesses powerful psychic abilities and has even been linked to the Phoenix Force.

Could Doctor Doom be responsible for the tragedy surrounding Jean Grey and her child? One theory suggests he attacked the X-Men on another Earth, possibly even killing Jean and taking their child. This might explain why Scott Summers is so heartbroken and why Famke Janssen hasn’t been asked to reprise her role as Jean Grey. Perhaps Doom secretly brought their daughter, Rachel, to our main Marvel universe (Earth-616), leaving her unable to return home and forcing her to grow up in a different reality. This would be a clever reference to her comic book backstory, where Sentinels conquered her home Earth, killing her parents and many mutants. She was then brainwashed by anti-mutant humans and turned into a ‘Hound,’ a mutant programmed to hunt others of her kind.

If you’re following the timeline established by the X-Men movies, you might be wondering how Scott and Jean Grey could have a child, considering they both seemingly died in X-Men: The Last Stand. The answer lies in Wolverine’s time travel in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which altered the timeline. He ended up in a future where Scott and Jean survived, and the core X-Men team was still together. While they only make brief appearances, they could have easily had a child in this new reality – we just haven’t seen them. We believe the X-Men we see in Doomsday come from this altered timeline, and that’s where Rachel originates. We’ll find out if Sadie Sink plays the daughter of these X-Men legends, or a different character altogether, when Spider-Man: Brand New Day is released this summer.
