AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Delayed Until December 2026, SECRET WARS to December, 2027

It appears we’ll need to exercise some patience before we can exclaim “Avengers Assemble” once more. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Marvel Studios have pushed back the release of “Avengers: Doomsday” by seven months. This new film will now premiere on December 18, 2026, followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” a year later, on December 17, 2027. These titles, “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” are some of the largest productions Marvel has ever undertaken. The shift in release dates is to accommodate their complex production schedules, as filming for “Doomsday” only commenced a few weeks ago. Notably, the last major Marvel Studios blockbuster, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” also debuted in December.

There could be other explanations for the delay in the release of Doomsday. It’s been speculated that Marvel is struggling to bring several actors into the project, but they’re finding it hard within the tight, one-year production timeline. If actors like Tom Holland, Chris Evans, or former X-Men stars can’t fit the current filming schedule, then this delay provides Kevin Feige with additional time to secure their participation. Interestingly, Disney experienced significant box office success with the Star Wars sequels and Rogue One when they were released during the winter holidays instead of late April/early May, which is typical for Avengers movies.

Next year in December, “Avengers: Doomsday” will hit theaters, leaving a nearly 18-month gap between it and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” with no other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie filling that space after “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” This extended break could potentially strengthen anticipation for “Doomsday.” It appears the days of receiving new MCU content every few months are over. Let’s hope this approach benefits Marvel Studios, and helps make “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” even better films.
