In relation to the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday”, I’m excited to share that I, Channing Tatum, will be reprising my role as Gambit. During a conversation with Variety, I mentioned that Ryan Reynolds has yet to make an appearance on set at this point.
The comment mirrors Reynolds’ own recent statements, in which he humorously dismissed queries regarding his part in the film.
Tatum also hyped the scale of the project, saying Avengers: Doomsday “will blow people’s minds.”

Softening Gambit’s Accent
Previously, it was disclosed that Tatum is altering Gambit’s Cajun accent since the character moves from the series of Deadpool and Wolverine to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers: Doomsday.
As a passionate cinephile, I must say that one of the hilarious recurring gags in the thrilling duo’s adventures – Deadpool and Wolverine – revolved around Gambit’s heavy accent which often left everyone baffled. And it was none other than Deadpool who would quip humorously, “Who’s your dialect coach? It seems like you’ve been learning from the Minions!
Tatum explained to Variety that the accent won’t be as thick.
In his own words, Tatum expressed that although the directors aim for humor in the film, they don’t plan to make it as humorous or irreverent as Deadpool. Instead, they want to maintain both drama and a tightly-knit storyline. When Gambit gets serious, when he sets aside his Mardi Gras persona, the stakes become significant.

How the Accent Played in Deadpool
Earlier, Tatum explained to Access Hollywood that the peculiar accent in Deadpool & Wolverine was deliberate. (or: Previously, Tatum clarified to Access Hollywood that the strange accent in Deadpool & Wolverine was a conscious decision.)
Tatum shared that improvisation was scarcely used in the film, and the Cajun dialect, unique to the area around Louisiana’s New Orleans and Mississippi, was something he grew up with but hadn’t practiced before. He noted some distinct Cajun phrases that were intended to be somewhat hard to understand, as part of the humor.
He added that Reynolds played into the gag on set:
Ryan approached me and expressed, “I don’t want to hear anything you’re saying during this performance,” so I cranked it up to the maximum. On other occasions, he said, “Alright, now I need to comprehend what you’re saying.” (Tatum)
