James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash premiered in theaters on December 19, 2025. With the release of the third movie in the popular sci-fi action series, here’s a guide to where you can stream the Avatar films.
Where to watch Avatar movies online
1. Avatar
Oh my gosh, Avatar! When it came out in 2009, it totally blew my mind! It wasn’t just a sci-fi movie, it changed everything about how movies were made, seriously. It pulled me into this incredible world called Pandora, and the way they showed it… the technology was unlike anything I’d ever seen! Everyone was talking about it, and for good reason – it was a masterpiece!
The film centers on Jake Sully, a man sent to the alien world of Pandora to learn about its environment and whether humans could live there. While living among the Na’vi people, he develops a connection to their culture, finds love, and eventually sides with them, abandoning his original mission and joining their community.
You can now watch the movie on Disney+. If you don’t have a Disney+ subscription, you can buy or rent it on Prime Video.
2. Avatar: The Way of Water
I was absolutely thrilled when James Cameron finally brought us back to Pandora with Avatar: The Way of Water, over ten years after the first film! It’s amazing to see Jake Sully’s story continue – he’s built a family and a life with the Na’vi, and we get to meet a whole new clan as well. It really felt like coming home.
You can watch the movie on Disney+, or you can buy or rent it through Prime Video.
3. Avatar: Fire and Ash
Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the story right after the events of The Way of Water. Jake and his family are dealing with the grief of losing their son while also confronting a powerful new enemy. This new threat comes from a different Na’vi clan who are more warlike and have teamed up with Jake’s old enemy, Colonel Miles Quaritch.
The latest addition to the franchise is currently playing in theatres.
Avatar Documentaries
The Avatar series also features two behind-the-scenes films. Avatar: The Deep Dive details the creation of The Way of Water, while the shorter Building the World of Pandora—just nine minutes long—shows James Cameron and his team developing the rich backstory and mythology of the Avatar world.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always asked where to find great content! Right now, you can stream ‘Avatar: The Deep Dive’ over on Hulu, and if you’re a ‘Avatar’ fan, don’t miss ‘Building the World of Pandora’ – it’s available on Disney+.
Beyond the movies, the world of Avatar extends to comic books, graphic novels, and a video game called Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
