As a huge fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I was really disappointed to hear that the new animated movie won’t be coming to theaters after all. It was originally planned for release in October 2026, but Paramount has now confirmed it’s skipping a theatrical run.
Instead of being released in theaters, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will debut exclusively on Paramount+ in Fall 2026.
This news is part of Paramount+’s plan to be the only place to watch content from Avatar Studios. They’re growing the animated world of Avatar with a new movie and a new TV series.

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender Details
The Last Airbender is inspired by the original animated series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.
The story centers on Avatar Aang’s journey to discover a powerful, ancient ability that could save his people. He must find it before it’s used for evil, leading him on an adventure around the world.
Lauren Montgomery directed the film, with Steve Ahn and William Mata serving as co-directors. Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino are producers, along with Latifa Ouaou and Maryann Garger. The music is composed by Jeremy Zuckerman, who returns from previous work on the series.
The voice cast now includes Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Freida Pinto, and Ke Huy Quan, alongside previously announced actors like Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan, Román Zaragoza, Steven Yeun, and Peta Sergeant.

Avatar: Seven Havens Series Also Announced
Alongside the movie, Paramount+ also revealed a new 2D animated series titled Avatar: Seven Havens.
Following the conclusion of The Legend of Korra, this series unfolds in a world shattered by a terrible disaster. A young Earthbender unexpectedly becomes the new Avatar, but in this time, being the Avatar makes her a target instead of a celebrated hero. Pursued by both people and spirits, she and her long-lost twin brother must discover the truth about their past and defend the last safe places in the world.
I’m so excited for Avatar: Seven Havens! I heard it’s going to have two seasons, each with 13 episodes that are about half an hour long. Even better, Nickelodeon Animation is producing it, and the original creators, Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are back as co-creators and executive producers, which means it’s going to be amazing!

Paramount+ Bets Big on Avatar Streaming
Paramount believes this move solidifies Paramount+ as the primary home for all things Avatar, specifically animated content.
Since becoming available on streaming in March 2023, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have consistently been among the top 100 most-watched shows, appearing on Nielsen’s list for 17 weeks.
By releasing the latest movie directly on Paramount+, it’s clear the company is focusing on building Avatar into a major streaming franchise to attract subscribers, rather than relying on traditional movie ticket sales.
