Filming for the movie started in New Zealand on September 25, 2017, at the same time as work on The Way of Water, and finished in late December 2020. The release date was delayed nine times, but it will now premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on December 1st, followed by a U.S. release on December 19th. Currently, two sequels – Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 – are also being made, with planned releases in 2029 and 2031.
The story begins a year after Jake and Neytiri establish a home with the Metkayina clan. Still grieving the loss of their son, Neteyam, they face a new threat: the Mangkwan clan, a powerful and hostile Na’vi tribe also called the Ash people. Led by the ruthless Varang, the Mangkwan join forces with Jake’s old enemy, Quaritch, making the conflict on Pandora even more dangerous.
The first glimpse of the movie showcases its breathtaking scenery and hints at a dramatic and heartfelt next chapter. The preview focuses on Jake and Neytiri’s family and their difficult battle to defend Pandora from new threats.
