James Cameron’s latest film, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” is off to a strong start at the box office. Initial reports show the movie earned $12 million in the U.S. from preview showings and $43.1 million internationally across 43 different countries.
I’m so excited for “Fire and Ash”! Experts are predicting it’s going to have a huge opening weekend, likely taking the top spot before Christmas. They think it could make between $90 and $105 million domestically, and even more – around $250 to $275 million – overseas. That puts the total worldwide opening somewhere between $340 and $365 million, which is incredible! I really think this movie is going to be a massive hit.
The initial “Avatar” movies were huge successes. The first film, released in 2009, opened with $77 million in the US and stayed in the top spot for seven weeks. It ultimately grossed $760 million domestically and nearly $3 billion worldwide.
The follow-up to “Avatar”, titled “Avatar: The Way of Water”, opened with $134 million in ticket sales and ultimately earned $688 million in the US and $2.3 billion worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film of all time. The new film, “Fire and Ash”, hopes to achieve similar success by attracting audiences during the holidays and benefiting from premium formats like IMAX and 3D.
Picking up where the last movie left off, this story follows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and their family as they navigate a new challenge. Having connected with the ocean-dwelling Metkayina clan, they now must contend with the Mangkwan tribe – a dangerous group of raiders who live inside a volcano.
Several other movies are also planning releases around the holidays. “The Housemaid,” a Lionsgate film starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, brought in $2.2 million during preview showings and is projected to earn between $20 million and $25 million during its opening weekend.

The animated biblical story “David” from Angel Studios is expected to open with similar box office numbers as other recent films. Paramount’s “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” is predicted to come in fourth place, earning between $15 million and $20 million after taking in $1.4 million during its preview showings.
Wow, “Fire and Ash” is off to an incredible start! As a huge fan of James Cameron’s Avatar world, I really think this new movie is going to be massive, and I’m hoping it breaks all sorts of records. It’s going to be exciting to see how long it stays popular in theaters, especially with the holidays coming up – I’m really rooting for it to do as well, or even better, than the previous Avatar films!
