It’s a huge loss for anyone who grew up watching wrestling.
Thomas Godolkin, mysteriously back from the dead, attracts super-powered students with the promise of a chance to become the top student at God U and potentially join The Seven. Even after Marie warns everyone not to trust him – considering he was believed to be dead for decades – some hopeful students attend his “seminar.” Godolkin then uses his powers to control their minds and bodies, forcing them to fight each other brutally. The resulting scene is horrifying, with injured and groaning students scattered everywhere – a sight that even the hardened Sage finds disturbing.
This episode really blew my mind! We flashed back to the very beginning of the season, to that lab in Odessa back in 1967. It turns out Godolkin actually injected himself with the same Compound V that Soldier Boy and Stormfront used! I have a feeling we’ll get the full story on that in Vought Rising. He survived that fire, even though he was badly burned, and it looks like he doesn’t age at all. But the craziest part? He didn’t just survive, he found someone to control, and apparently, Doug – formerly known as Cipher – tells us he’s actually the second person Godolkin has controlled! It’s getting so good!

Setting events in 1962 would have been much closer to the spirit of the late 1950s. The country was on the cusp of major changes – the assassination of JFK and the arrival of the Beatles would dramatically alter the cultural landscape just a year later. The new series, Welcome to Derry, successfully recaptures the nostalgic feeling of King’s Maine childhood that’s so central to the novel, and it’s a definite improvement.
