‘Audience Got Sick Of Us Being There’: Jesse Tyler Ferguson Opens Up On Modern Family Cast’s Reaction To Losing Emmy To Veep In 2015

As a dedicated follower and fan of Modern Family since its inception, I must say that the cast’s reactions to losing an Emmy Award in 2015 were both amusing and endearing. Having watched the show grow from a promising sitcom to a household name, it was fascinating to see the cast members’ journey, including their five consecutive Emmy wins.

In 2015, the actors from Modern Family displayed some intriguing responses when they lost an Emmy Award to Veep. Although their sitcom had been consistently taking home awards for a while, the winning trend ended with Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s show claiming victory that year.

Approximately ten years after the show ended, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who portrayed Mitchell Prichett, admitted it was uncomfortable for the cast to depart the building and confront the journalists gathered outside. During an interview on Busy This Week, Ferguson humorously shared a peculiar event that unfolded following the 2015 Emmy Awards ceremony.

During an interview with the media outlet, the Modern Family actor was inquired if they or the show’s cast had ever grown weary of consistently winning awards. In response, the sitcom star stated, “No, however, it appears that the viewers eventually grew tired of us being on the screen.” From 2010 to 2015, the cast and creators received five consecutive awards for their work.

Moreover, Ferguson mentioned that they had won five years consecutively, setting some kind of record. He also recalled, “I believe we equaled Frasier’s streak for the most Emmy awards won in a row, and I can still remember the sigh of disappointment from the audience when we won our fifth time.

During the podcast, the host reminisced about the cast members having trouble leaving the venue after losing to Veep in their sixth season. He explained, “I hope this doesn’t seem too unrefined, but when we didn’t win in our sixth year, we were unsure of how to exit the building.” He went on to say, “A cluster of about ten actors saying something like, ‘That’s the way we left last year.’

In a similar vein, Busy Phillips, the show’s presenter, also found it amusing that the cast continued to desire to interact with the press even after failing to win, despite not taking home the prize.

Additionally, Tyler Ferguson shared that as time has passed, the cast members have become more like a close-knit family, developing strong bonds with each other.

In this popular sitcom, you’d find stars like Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrel, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, and Nolan Gould, along with a few more talented individuals.

All seasons of Modern Family are available to stream on Disney+.
