A true connoisseur of hunting recognizes that the genuine Monster Hunter endgame is all about style, and Monster Hunter Wilds is taking fashion to unprecedented levels by making it easier to acquire layered armor and eliminating gender-specific armor sets. However, this revolutionary period of hunter swag is being hampered by a stumbling block: while Wilds offers a plethora of outfits, it also has an overwhelming array of meal buffs, consumable items, weapon enhancements, and armor abilities that bathe your hunter in an annoying, all-over radiance.
How can you outshine all those hunters wearing Gore Magala suits, especially when your pristine Blangonga outfit is now vibrant orange due to drinking a Hot Drink for an arctic hunt? It’s unfair. Yet, it’s one of the many injustices that modders have found a solution for.
On the platform Nexus Mods, you will find the Persistent Buff Glow Removal mod created by PeaslyWellbott. This is a script using REFramework, allowing you to remove all or only some of the full-body glows from Wilds as per your preference.
By design, it conceals the glows associated with buff consumables and Palico abilities as a standard setting. However, it also offers customization to turn off glow effects from healing items, weapon charges, and Frenzy effects. Using some of these optional settings might make gameplay slightly more challenging without visual indicators, but sometimes aesthetics require compromise.
Here’s a quick rundown for how to use the Persistent Buff Glow Removal mod:
- Download the REFramework mod. It’s a scripting API required by most Monster Hunter Wilds mods. To install it, extract the “dinput8.dll” file from the .zip to your Wilds install folder (\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds).
- Run Monster Hunter Wilds once. This should automatically create a ‘reframework’ folder in your Wilds install directory.
- Download the Persistent Buff Glow Removal mod. Extract the “Persistent Buff Glow Removal.lua” file into the ‘autorun’ folder inside the ‘reframework’ folder added to your Wilds directory (steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds\reframework\autorun).
- Launch the game and press Insert to open the REFramework menu. Expand the Script Generated UI dropdown and select “[Persistent Buff Glow Removal] Options” to configure which glow effects you want to disable.
- Bask in your unblemished style.
Keep in mind that REFramework might cause some instability or crashes within the game, as it’s a new version specifically designed for Monster Hunter Wilds and there are still kinks to work out. If you encounter problems, uninstalling REFramework is straightforward: Simply delete the dinput8.dll file from your Monster Hunter Wilds installation folder.
Hey fellow gamers! Just a heads-up from my own experience: As of October 2023, Capcom considers all modifications as cheats, unless they’re officially endorsed. While they’ve generally turned a blind eye to PC players who modded World and Rise, especially those sticking with visual enhancements, remember that modding Wilds comes with some potential risks technically speaking. Happy gaming!
