The upcoming game from Rebellion, titled “Atomfall“, is set in 1962 and takes cues from iconic British science fiction shows such as “Doctor Who” and “The Prisoner”. Unlike many open-world games, “Atomfall” will not incorporate a traditional quest system. Instead, players are encouraged to explore various leads to solve the game’s enigmas.
Ryan Greene, the art director, shares that players are given the liberty from the start to explore any investigative path they prefer. Yet, their initial resources may be limited, which could result in undesirable consequences for certain choices. This design is intended to create a realistic detective experience, placing emphasis on exploration and problem-solving rather than forcing us to follow predetermined quests.
Ben Fisher, the creative director, notes that the game is structured so players have the option to finish it regardless if they decide to get rid of all the non-player characters (NPCs) they meet along the way. This design feature offers various avenues for investigation, although some actions may limit specific storylines. Players can modify their strategy by engaging with diverse characters, making tactical choices, or bartering for information.
The objective of this game is to create an atmosphere of suspicion, featuring deceitful clues and confusing diary entries which might lead you astray and result in a cul-de-sac. This design element encourages us to exercise our analytical skills and adjust to the evolving storyline.
The game titled “Atomfall” is all set for launch on March 27, and it will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. What makes this game stand out among others in its genre is its distinctive method of storytelling and player involvement. Players can expect an immersive and intellectually stimulating experience from it.
