This tutorial shows you how to unlock every door in the Atomfall Chemical Testing Bunker, gain access to the vault, and collect the Corrupted Dagger on Midsummer Isle, as well as some Training Stimulants, ammunition, and a plentiful supply of crafting resources.
How to Solve the Atomfall Chemical Testing Bunker Door Puzzle
The Atomfall Chemical Testing Bunker riddle calls for visiting particular rooms sequentially and opening each in turn. Navigating this bunker on Midsummer Isle may prove challenging unless you’ve made the necessary preparations.
Preparing to Explore the Chemical Testing Bunker
At the Chemical Analysis Shelter, it’s important to be aware that potential dangers abound. Ensure you’re properly equipped before proceeding any further.
To reach this spot situated on Midsummer Isle, you’ll first have to journey through Wyndham Village. Upon arrival at the dock, feel free to chat with Bill Anderson who will ferry you across to Midsummer Isle. However, remember to get ready for your trip in advance.
In your journey ahead, you’ll encounter Druids, Bandits, Ferals, Thralls, along with some fresh foes like Aquatic Feral variants and Crow Swarms (yes, crow swarms). To prepare yourself effectively, make sure you carry enough ammunition for all your weapons. It might be wise to visit every merchant in the primary zones of the map, stock up on ammo, and set off with peace of mind.
In numerous areas, you may encounter Toxins and Infections that weaken you. Make sure you can create the necessary antidotes for these items. Lastly, it’s crucial to have the Signal Redirector device on hand, as you’ll need it to gather all the treasures in the Chemical Analysis Facility.
When prepared, locate Bill Anderson at the Wyndham Village docks and proceed to Midsummer Isle from there.

When set, find Bill Anderson at Wyndham Village docks and journey to Midsummer Isle afterwards.
Where to Find the Chemical Testing Bunker
The Chemical Testing Bunker can be found on the northern part of Midsummer Isle.
As you journey, you’re likely to come across both Bandits and Druids. You might choose to slip by unnoticed, run faster than them, or engage in a battle with them instead.
Keep in mind that a merchant is located at coordinates 32.2E, 97.9N and another one can be found at 33.9E, 102.3N. Since these merchants are en route to the Chemical Testing Bunker, it might be worth your while to stop by and check out their inventory.
Entering the Chemical Testing Bunker
After reaching the Chemical Testing Bunker, you have two options to gain entry. One is through the door on the south side, which is depicted on the cover of this guide. The other way is to approach it from the eastern direction.
Be aware that the doors of the Chemical Testing Bunker function as airlocks, sealing shut after use; ensure you enter and exit via the same door whenever feasible to avoid getting stranded by accidentally locking one of them.
If you go in through the south door, come out through the east door, then try to get back into the south door from the outside, you’ll notice that the airlock on the south door can’t be accessed at all from the exterior.
Clearing the Halls
Upon entering the Chemical Testing Facility, it would be wise to explore every corridor first. You may encounter several captives, known as Thralls, in these areas, and it’s advisable to eliminate them here rather than venturing into additional chambers where you might find even more.
If you’ve never attacked Thralls before, it’s wiser to stay at a distance and aim for precise headshots multiple times. Alternatively, you can opt for melee attacks if you’re confident in your skills. Thralls tend to walk slowly and deliberately, making it relatively simple to outpace them when necessary.
Restoring Power
Next, let’s restore power in the facility. We can do this by heading to the Power Control Room. Upon entering through the “A” entrance, take a left and look for the room with a secured door. Access to this room can also be gained via a vent located just around the corner if you need an alternate route.
There is poison gas in this room, so you may want to consume an Antidote before going forward.
Additionally, you’ll discover that someone has previously claimed the room: there’s a Thrall awaiting your arrival within.
In that tight space, you could squeeze yourself in by crawling if you choose to do so. Another option is launching grenades into the vent. However, using grenades against a single Thrall might not be very efficient since they’re quite durable; it would be more beneficial to engage them directly and eliminate them with precise headshots or melee attacks instead.
Regardless of your choice, eliminate the Thrall and press the button within this chamber. This action will set off multiple exhaust fans across the complex, helping to clear some of the toxic fumes, thus improving mobility conditions.
Entering Administration
Our next move involves proceeding to the Administration room, which currently houses at least five Thralls. It would be wise to ensure you’re completely restored before venturing in, so feel free to return to the Pneumatic Tube at any of the entrances for a supply refresh if necessary.
Make your way to Research Lab B, eliminate any Thralls that are present within the room. Remember, there’s harmful gas in this area, so locate a secure spot to stay clear of it until it dissipates. For now, you can save your Antidote since there are safe zones available.
Heading out from Research Lab B, take two consecutive rights, and you’ll spot a vent nestled on the south wall – a discovery I’d be eager to make as an ardent explorer!
As you pass through this vent, you’ll find yourself in the Administration sector, but beware! This chamber is inhabited by Thralls, so it’s best to proceed swiftly.
Head straight and make a right to find a barred door.
If you move swiftly, you could reach the door, unlock it, and dash into the hallway before any approaching Thralls manage to get near enough to harm you.
Turn around and you’ll likely find at least a few of the Thralls following you.
Instead, change direction and eliminate all the thralls. You can guide them through the corridors at a leisurely pace, so be cautious and aim for precision to prevent errors.
After that, I’m off to Administration again. There are at least two Training Stimulants stashed away, one in each desk. Let’s see if I can find them!
Where to Find the Advanced Research Keycard
As you’re at your administrative post, do keep an eye out for a metallic briefcase adorned with two red stripes resting on a desk. Inside this case, you’ll find the Advanced Research Keycard.
Loot the Advanced Research Keycard, then head back out into the hall.
Looting Research Lab A | How to Open the Cold Storage Door
After this, proceed to explore Research Lab A. To reach it, go back through Research Lab B. Once you exit, take a left and you’ll discover a vent on the western wall.
This opening leads you to Research Lab A. Be aware, there’s a solitary Thrall residing within, so ensure you’re prepared for potential conflict.
After the Thrall has perished, make your way towards the door labeled “Cold Storage”, which sports an electronic lock. Retrieve your Signal Redirector, then gaze upward and slightly to the left of the lock to locate the device you must activate to energize the lock.
Inside here, you’ll discover a B.A.R.D Crate containing at least one Training Stimulant and additional crafting resources.
Head back out into the hall and make your way to Advanced Research.
Clearing Advanced Research
The entrance to the Advanced Research area is stuck wide open, making it a tight fit for you to maneuver through. On your right side, there’s only one turret waiting for you; get prepared to take it down with some quick aiming as soon as you step inside.
Three Feral creatures are present in this space, one of them lurking near the Vault’s entrance. Be vigilant and examine the luminescent mushrooms to spot them. If you possess any Molotov Cocktails, you can dispose of each of them with a well-aimed throw.
Go over to the room’s right-hand side where you’ll discover a box that can be set off using the Signal Redirector. Once activated, this will purge the gas from the current room.
Once the gas is cleared and the 3 Ferals are dead, you can safely head down to the Vault.
How to Open the Advanced Research Vault in the Chemical Testing Bunker and Get the Corrupted Dagger
In the Atomfall Chemical Testing Bunker, you can unlock the Advanced Research Vault with the keycard for advanced research that you find in the Administration sector.
Approach the Card Reader, engage with it, and you’ll unveil the secret treasure chest of this place – a one-of-a-kind blade hidden within.
The Corrupted Dagger is a small melee weapon with the following stats:
- Low Damage
- Fast Attack Speed
- Increased Damage to Infected Enemies
This weapon is perfectly suited for confronting Feral, Thrall, and tainted Druids across the globe in hand-to-hand combat.
After obtaining the Corrupted Dagger, take your time to thoroughly search this room for various crafting resources, there’s plenty to be found here. Should your inventory become full, feel free to offload some items at the Pneumatic Tubes conveniently located by either entrance.
Exiting the Bunker
With the Tainted Blade in your grasp, you’ve now secured the priceless artifact from the Atomfall Chemical Testing Bunker – a find beyond measure. The compound offers an abundance of resources for crafting and several Training Boosters scattered around, so don’t forget to gather everything available before moving on.
When you’re done, you can exit the facility and go back to exploring Midsummer Isle.
