Assassin’s Creed Shadows Pays Tribute to Our Favorite Ninja

As a seasoned Assassin’s Creed enthusiast with over a decade of gaming under my belt, I am absolutely thrilled about ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows.’ The introduction of Naoe, a swift and stealthy shinobi Assassin from Iga province, promises an exhilarating experience that beautifully blends the series’ roots with its more recent action-oriented gameplay.

In ‘Assassin’s Creed: Shadow,’ we encounter Naoe, a shinobi Assassin hailing from Iga province. Her father was her trainer, yet she remains largely ignorant of her mother’s background. When war encroaches upon her homeland, Naoe is compelled to engage in conflict. During this turmoil, she unearths hidden truths about her ancestry and ties to the Assassin Brotherhood.

The creative director, Jonathan Dumont, refers to Naoe as the swiftest Assassin within the series. She exhibits an agile maneuver similar to that of Naruto, propelling herself forward while running on rooftops with arms extended behind. Her speed and covert abilities are amplified by tools such as a grappling hook, kunai, and smoke bombs, enabling her to dodge confrontations head-on.

The game presents two distinct playstyles: one centered around Naoe’s stealth tactics and another focused on Yasuke’s action-packed gameplay. Historically inspired by a Black samurai, Yasuke serves under the feudal lord Oda Nobunaga. Compared to Naoe who is adept at stealth, Yasuke is well-versed in combat but finds it challenging to execute stealth moves such as the Leap of Faith, often resulting in clumsy landings.

Naoe’s experience is a blend of self-exploration and retribution. As she uncovers her lineage as an Assassin, she wrestles with the principles instilled by her father, standing up for those who are powerless. Her narrative mirrors the broader ideas of unity and fairness that are central to the Assassin Brotherhood.

In ‘Assassin’s Creed: Shadow’, an effort has been made to please longtime fans of the series who enjoy stealth elements, as well as those who prefer action-packed gameplay in more recent titles. By introducing characters like Naoe and Yasuke, the game offers a variety of experiences tailored to different player tastes.

The game will be available for play on various systems like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers starting on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Players can anticipate immersing themselves in feudal Japan from the perspectives of two individual characters, each presenting unique gaming experiences and storylines.
