Artist Recreates Iconic BEETLEJUICE Characters as Creepy Life-Size Puppets

Not many films boast imagery as instantly identifiable as Tim Burton’s first “Beetlejuice.” One particularly unforgettable scene from the 1988 film features normally appealing ghosts, Barbara and Adam Maitland (played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin). In a chilling sequence, a spell is cast to revive the Maitlands, but their bodies start decaying immediately. These unsettling depictions of the couple are truly frightening. Recently, artist and designer Brandon Hardy has crafted life-size puppet replicas that accurately mimic the decaying Maitlands. He’s even shared a video showcasing the process behind bringing them to life. You can watch the entire video right here: [link]

The two dolls representing the Maitlands are remarkably accurate to their counterparts in the timeless movie “Beetlejuice”. Hardy didn’t miss a beat, ensuring every detail was spot-on, from the wedding attire of the couple, to the nuances of their hair, complexion, and eye color. The original “Beetlejuice” is filled with unforgettable characters, particularly among the deceased. At parties or cosplay events even today, you’ll often encounter Miss Argentina or the Magician’s Assistant. And let’s not forget about Beetlejuice himself, the self-proclaimed “Ghost with the Most”. Yet, even amidst these legendary characters from Beetlejuice, the decaying Maitlands still shine brightly.

Brandon Hardy is known for crafting life-size puppets resembling characters from popular films such as Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice and Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. These eerie creations have graced both Broadway stages and television screens. During the 2020 quarantine, Hardy even built a homemade replica of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. Additionally, he constructed an impressive 13-foot-tall puppet of Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Hardy offers a tutorial series on making various spooky Beetlejuice puppets and other creations, which he calls Out of the Ether. For further details about Brandon Hardy and his work, visit his official website.
