Arrowhead Studio, the creators of Helldivers 2, haven’t explicitly stated their next project yet, but their upcoming work will be independently financed and owned without any collaboration with Sony, as confirmed by CEO Shams Jorjani in a conversation on the Helldivers 2 Discord server.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to echo Jorjani’s sentiments: The future of Arrowhead looks radiantly promising, and it’s all due to our unique ability to delve into some truly fascinating ideas that we wouldn’t have otherwise. Our upcoming project, Game 6, will unfold in its own distinctive way, and I can’t help but feel that your support plays a crucial role in shaping this journey.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled about the studio taking full creative reigns over this project. This doesn’t mean, however, that we should view it as a slight against Sony. The CEO swiftly set the record straight, acknowledging that without Sony, there wouldn’t even be a Helldivers. He further emphasized that they are not closing the door on future collaborations with Sony.
Previously hinted, former CEO Johan Pilestedt mentioned that the development of the studio’s upcoming game was already in its initial stages. Upon his return from a break, it is anticipated that he will spearhead the creative aspects for this project.
In Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Studios and Sony experienced an extraordinary triumph, yet their collaboration wasn’t always smooth sailing. A point of contention arose when Sony proposed that PC gamers create PSN accounts to carry on playing the game. This prompted internal resistance from Arrowhead, who might not have been able to persuade Sony otherwise if not for a massive review-bombing incident on Steam coincidentally occurring at the same time. The developers faced a lengthy struggle to restore the game’s ratings from this unnecessary drama that could have been avoided.
Recently, Arrowhead unveiled update 1.003.000 for Helldivers 2 simultaneously with the Masters of Ceremony Warbond. These updates intensify the thrilling Galactic Emergency scenario, which endangers Super Earth itself.
