Arnold Schwarzenegger Says King Conan Is In The Works With Christopher McQuarrie

Arnold Schwarzenegger says King Conan is finally moving forward, and it sounds like a big one.

Arnold Schwarzenegger announced on YouTube during the Arnold Classic that a new King Conan movie is in the works, and that the studio has brought on the writer and director of Tom Cruise’s last four films to handle the project.

Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that Fox has discussed the possibility of him reprising his role in another Predator movie, and a sequel script for Commando is already written.

Arnold Schwarzenegger teases King Conan

Schwarzenegger explained that the planned new Conan movie would be written to reflect his current age and stage of life, rather than trying to recapture his younger self as the character.

Arnold explained the concept involves a more mature Conan – an older king who’s become comfortable and out of practice, but is thrust back into battle when circumstances force him to fight again.

Schwarzenegger talked about a film packed with craziness, action, fantasy, monsters, and impressive visual effects that weren’t possible before.

This matches what fans have been hoping for with an older King Conan story for years – a sequel that would bring Arnold Schwarzenegger back to the Conan universe as a seasoned, battle-hardened warrior.

Chris McQuarrie appears to be the big get

While Arnold didn’t name him in the clip, his description points to Christopher McQuarrie.

Christopher McQuarrie has frequently collaborated with Tom Cruise, having written and directed several Mission: Impossible films – Rogue Nation, Fallout, Dead Reckoning, and The Final Reckoning – as well as Top Gun: Maverick. This experience makes him a strong candidate to expand the King Conan franchise beyond simply appealing to fans of the original.

If Schwarzenegger’s comments are accurate, that is a major name to attach to Conan.

Arnold says Fox has also “rediscovered” him

Schwarzenegger made it sound like Conan is only part of a larger push.

Representatives from Fox have discussed bringing back Predator with him, and they’ve also talked about a sequel to Commando. It sounds like they’re generally interested in revisiting several of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s classic films.

It’s surprising to see this happen, especially since many of those projects had been stalled or hadn’t quite found their footing without his involvement.

Whether all of them happen is another story, but Arnold clearly believes momentum is building.
