‘Armor Wars’ Writers Yassir and Isaiah Lester Discuss Marvel’s Choice to Transform Don Cheadle’s Disney+ Series into a Feature Film

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen countless adaptations of comic books and video games come to life on the silver screen. The recent news about Marvel’s Armor Wars transitioning from a series to a film has piqued my interest, but also stirred up a sense of nostalgia.

Yassir Lester, the writer behind Marvel’s Armor Wars, recently discussed the transformation of the project from a series to a movie. In an interview about their new film, The Gutter, which they co-directed with brother Isaiah Lester, Yassir reminisced on his tenure as head writer for Armor Wars and expressed some complex emotions about the changeover to a full-length feature film.

Yassir clarified that transitioning Armor Wars into a movie hasn’t presented substantial creative hurdles for him, casually commenting, “Really, it doesn’t matter until they begin filming, right?” However, he acknowledged, “The tale I penned was an exciting series indeed.

When asked about taking on the role of director for Armor Wars, Isaiah expressed great interest, replying, “Yes, definitely, I would be happy to do it.

However, Yassir made one stipulation: the remuneration must be appropriate. “Many people either agree or shrug when it comes to directing a Marvel film,” he joked rhetorically, referring to the pay of directors like the Russo brothers. He further stated that Marvel often reconsiders whether certain projects are more suitable for series or movies. ” frankly, I believe some films should have been series, and vice versa,” he added.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited about the news that Armor Wars is transitioning to a movie format. This means we’ll delve deeper into Col. James Rhodes’ (Don Cheadle) journey faster than a series might allow. It seems like the less-than-stellar response to some Marvel Disney+ series, such as Secret Invasion, may have played a role in this decision.

Yassir stated that by using the film format, we can swiftly reintroduce Rhodey into the action, skipping lengthy character development in favor of delving immediately into his role within a larger universe in projects like Secret Invasion.

Isaiah joked, “Put me in a cave, Marvel, and pay me $50 million; I’ll do whatever you say.”

Currently, the progress on Armor Wars is paused in a holding pattern. Don Cheadle has given us a clue, expressing, “Should I find out, do tell. The project is undergoing numerous alterations, so we’ll have to wait and see.
