As a music enthusiast and follower of Ariana Grande‘s career, I have always admired her talent and dedication to her craft. However, reading about her meeting with Imogen Heap, her idol, took my admiration for her to an entirely new level.
The story of her initial disbelief at receiving a message from her idol, followed by the fear that it might be a setup, is something I can relate to on a personal level. I too have had moments where I questioned whether a beloved artist would actually want to engage with someone like me. But seeing Grande overcome her doubts and eventually develop a relationship with Heap is inspiring.
What’s even more impressive is how genuinely starstruck Grande was by Heap, despite her own fame and success. It’s a reminder that heroes can be just as starstruck by their idols, regardless of their status in the industry. This shared experience of fandom makes me appreciate both artists even more.
To top it off, Grande’s joke about wanting to live inside Heap’s brain forever is hilarious and relatable. I think we all have that one artist whose music seems to tap into our deepest emotions and thoughts in a way few others can. In my case, it’s definitely Imogen Heap and Ariana Grande. If only I could live inside their brains for a day!
Even though Ariana Grande is among the most prominent singers of recent years, it’s important to remember that celebrities can also experience moments when they are awestruck in the presence of other famous individuals.
In a fresh feature with W Magazine, the 31-year-old vocalist shared her experience of receiving an invitation to encounter her idol, Imogen Heap, which she initially found hard to believe as it seemed surreal.
Imogen Heap is the musical hero I admire most, she’s my top pick among artists, composers, and producers. In her own words, ‘I once received a message from her, and I thought it was a clever trick!’
Grande had remembered that when Heap extended the invitation, she initially suspected it might be a setup as she couldn’t quite believe it was genuine. “She was incredibly kind,” Grande added, “and she’s truly exceptional in every aspect.
Over the past ten years, the artist who creates Eternal Sunshine has openly admired British singer-songwriter Laurel Halo (aged 47) numerous times. As far back as 2013, she publicly demonstrated this affection by uploading a cover version of Halo’s 2005 song “Just for Now” onto her YouTube channel.
In a conversation with Billboard towards the end of the year, she expressed, “She’s definitely my top admirer in music.” (This sentence maintains the original meaning but is phrased more casually.)
Grandé admires Heap’s extraordinary musical talent, describing her mind as a “musical paradise” filled with inspiration, enabling her to meticulously craft every detail in each of her songs. As a result, Grandé finds herself continually captivated by her work.
Highlighting her deep affection for music and Heap’s exceptional musical talent, Grande expressed that if given the chance, she would spend eternity dwelling inside Heap’s mind, immersed in his creative world.
In the course of events, these two musicians became acquainted, as Grande’s mother reached out to Heap in 2018 to arrange a dinner meeting for her daughter on her 21st birthday.
Imri from Frou Frou disclosed that Ariana Grande had dinner at her countryside home near the outskirts of London when she couldn’t get hold of her to ask for directions because she forgot her phone. This supported Ariana’s initial concern that her encounter with Heap could have been a trap for some suspicious activities, but fortunately, no such thing transpired.
Later on, Grande reworked Heap’s 2005 hit “Goodnight and Go” for her 2018 album Sweetener. This revamped version was greatly appreciated and acknowledged by other notable artists, who admired her for breathing new life into the song.
