Ariana Grande brought a darkly humorous twist to classic holiday themes when she hosted Saturday Night Live. One sketch playfully revisited Home Alone, casting Grande as Kevin McCallister in a version with surprisingly intense and violent results.
The comedy sketch takes place years after the first movie. Kevin is now grown up and hosting his family for Christmas. He’s been living alone in the big house and, just like before, has set up a bunch of complicated traps to protect it. Unfortunately, he doesn’t remember to disable the traps before his family unexpectedly shows up.
With family arriving, one by one they start getting hurt by the same traps Kevin used to protect the house from burglars. Everything – doors, floors, furniture, and hidden gadgets – becomes dangerous. Every effort to help just makes things worse, as new accidents keep happening all over the house.
The comedy sketch rapidly becomes increasingly ridiculous, starting with surprise and quickly spiraling into complete silliness. No one is safe – not even Kevin’s own family – and things get more chaotic with each new person who appears. Ultimately, almost everyone falls victim to the house’s dangerous traps.
The sketch maintains a wildly over-the-top and cartoonish feel, heavily inspired by the slapstick comedy in the original movie, but taken to an even more ridiculous level. Several cast members from Saturday Night Live also appear, each playing a different member of the McCallister family who is completely unprepared for what’s happening. You can find the sketch on YouTube.
