As a long-time Marvel fan who’s seen my share of ups and downs in the ever-evolving world of superhero cinema, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and confusion regarding the latest developments with the ‘Blade’ reboot.
It appears that the ‘Blade’ reboot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not materialize after encountering development difficulties for quite some time. Despite much anticipation, this movie has faced substantial hurdles well before the recent SAG-AFTRA work stoppages.
The film, centered around the legendary vampire slayer Eric Brooks, was intended as a reboot of the cherished ‘Blade’ trilogy, which significantly influenced the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it today.
Ever since Mahershala Ali was announced as Blade in 2018, the production process has been fraught with recurring issues related to the script, leading to numerous changes in writers and directors. Some speculations indicate that Mahershala Ali’s involvement might be a contributing factor, while others attribute the problems primarily to the storyline and screenplay.
Lately, there’s news that the release of ‘Blade’ has been postponed from Disney’s schedule. Originally set to premiere on November 7, 2025, the film is now uncertainly delayed. In its place, ‘Predator: Badlands’ will be released instead. Given recent whispers, it appears that we may not see ‘Blade’ in theaters for some time.
With ‘Blade’ temporarily delayed, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) enthusiasts can begin brainstorming about what may come next in terms of supernatural storylines. There’s a chance that certain aspects from the proposed film could find their way into the upcoming ‘Midnight Sons’ project.
Although Marvel Studios hasn’t made an official announcement about it yet, there have been some developments lately. For instance, it’s been reported that ‘Logan’ scribe Michael Green has been brought on board to work on the screenplay.
It appears that instead of giving Blade his own movie right away, Marvel Cinematic Universe might be focusing on introducing a new group of superheroes first. However, this doesn’t preclude Mahershala Ali from playing the character; it simply means he may not have a standalone film just yet. Given that Blade is associated with the Midnight Sons in the comics, it seems likely that he will play a substantial role within that team.
Speculation points towards the upcoming stage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe delving into supernatural themes, and it seems fitting that the Midnight Sons could handle such otherworldly perils.
The potential hold-up for the “Blade” movie might also be due to Wesley Snipes resuming his role. Since the debut of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ there’s been a significant amount of interest in reprising Snipes, who starred as Blade in three films approximately two decades ago.
Enthusiasts are buzzing over the prospect, and the star of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ Ryan Reynolds, has voiced his enthusiasm for collaborating with Snipes and is backing the notion of a fresh ‘Blade’ film with him in the lead role.
There’s a strong chance that the producers have taken note of the favorable responses to Snipes’ reprisal and may consider incorporating him into the storyline as a wise, senior guide. For now, it looks like Mahershala Ali will continue as the central Blade character in the MCU.
