
Apple TV is developing a prequel to its monster series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. According to Nexus Point News, the new show will focus on a younger Lee Shaw, portrayed by Wyatt Russell, during the Cold War. It will depict the conflicts between the US and Russia in a world where giant monsters exist.
Joby Harold, the creative force behind series like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Army of the Dead, will lead the new show as showrunner. He’ll also be an executive producer, working with his wife and business partner, Tory Tunnell, through their production company, Safehouse Pictures.
Wyatt Russell, playing a younger version of Lee Shaw, is also an executive producer on the new series. He joins original creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction, as well as Harold and Tunnell, who all served as executive producers on the initial ‘Monarch’ series.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a new series from Legendary Television that expands the story of the Monsterverse, building on the world of Godzilla originally created by Toho Co., Ltd.
This show centers on the Monarch organization and their encounters with Godzilla and other massive creatures, known as Titans, spanning several decades. The series stars Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, Elisa Lasowski, Wyatt Russell, and Kurt Russell. It first launched on Apple TV+ on November 17, 2023, and has been picked up for a second season, set to premiere on February 27, 2026.
This new installment delves into the history of Monarch, revealing how Lee Shaw dealt with Cold War politics and terrifying creatures. Starring Wyatt Russell and backed by a skilled production team, the series promises to deliver the exciting action and compelling narrative that viewers loved in the original.
