I was really disappointed to hear that Apple TV cancelled “The Last Frontier” after only one season! I was hooked on the show – Jason Clarke was fantastic as Frank Remnick, this U.S. marshal up in Alaska. The premise was so gripping – a plane carrying prisoners crashes, and all these dangerous convicts are loose in the wild. It had so much potential, and I was hoping it would get a chance to develop further.
I’ve been following Remnick’s story, and it’s really gripping. He’s doing everything he can to safeguard his town, but he’s begun to realize this plane crash wasn’t just a random tragedy. He’s starting to believe it’s connected to something much bigger and far more sinister, a deliberate plot unfolding around them.
The show starred Dominic Cooper, Haley Bennett, Simone Kessell, Dallas Goldtooth, Tait Blum, and Alfre Woodard. Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio created the series and also worked as executive producers. They were joined by executive producers Clarke, Laura Benson, Glenn Kessler, Albert Kim, and director Sam Hargrave.
The show received generally mixed reactions from critics. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 46% approval rating based on 24 reviews, with many critics feeling the show had a strong starting idea but ultimately didn’t live up to its potential due to pacing and unexplored storylines. Metacritic gave the series a score of 53 out of 100, also indicating mixed or average reviews.
Honestly, I was really excited about this show – it had a great cast and the story sounded amazing. But it just didn’t click with anyone, not the critics and definitely not viewers like me. It’s a shame, but it got canceled pretty quickly, which is always disappointing when a show doesn’t live up to its potential.
