Hello, this is Jun-hee Lee, project director of BrownDust2.
We’ve reviewed your feedback regarding the black shadow effect in Ventana’s interaction.
First, we sincerely apologize for the confusion and frustration this presentation caused.
Update Plan
The black shadow effect will be removed entirely.
This will be addressed in the Feb 11th update.
Just to be clear, the dark shadow effect wasn’t used to censor anything. It was a deliberate creative decision made by the director, and we want to explain why we included it.
Creative Intent
The idea behind Ventana’s interaction was to create a feeling of intimacy: lying close to her in bed and then covering both of you with the blanket. Because other characters already have scenes involving being in bed, the team wanted to make this moment with Ventana feel especially close – as if you’re actually connecting with her, skin-to-skin, under the covers.
Why we used the black shadow
We were inspired by ASMR videos that focus on sounds and avoid showing the person’s face, relying instead on small details like jaw movements to create a mood. We thought this could heighten the viewer’s imagination and build tension, and we wanted to create that same immersive and personal feeling in our own work.
Instead of focusing on what was directly visible, we decided the most important part of the scene would be what was suggested by the hidden areas. We really wanted to create a specific mood that viewers could feel beyond what was shown in darkness, and that drove our production choices. Because of this, the parts of the scene that were visible were kept simple from the beginning—we wanted to build atmosphere through suggestion and implication, rather than showing everything directly.
We designed the scene as if the player were lying right beside Ventana. As you approach, the environment gets darker, emphasizing an intimate, secluded feeling – like it’s just the two of you under a blanket, free from distractions. We used shadows to create this sense of closeness and focus.
Honestly, we thought the shadow effect would be a small touch, but it ended up needing to be used everywhere. It just didn’t look great – the presentation ended up feeling rushed and a little sloppy, not the polished look we were going for.
Below is the climax scene that was shown this time.
Climax Scene

This scene feels more atmospheric and impactful than others without the black shadow effect. We want to be clear that the shadow wasn’t used to lessen the emotional impact – it was a deliberate artistic decision made by the director.
Direction going forward
We’ll completely get rid of the dark shadow and smooth out any resulting jerky movements.

We will not give up BrownDust2’s bold presentation and unique tone.
We’re also working on making the experience even better – aiming for conversations that feel more realistic, engaging, and refined.
Many of you love BrownDust2 for its beautiful artwork and striking style, and we know how important those elements are to the game. We also believe that our characters, special moves, and story content wouldn’t be as meaningful without your support and anticipation.
We understand this presentation may seem concerning, especially given recent discussions about censorship, and we apologize for that. We made mistakes in how we presented this information and didn’t meet the standards we set for ourselves.
We’re moving away from solid black shadows in our game. Instead of showing a full, dark outline, we’ll use subtle, slightly see-through effects – like a blurry hand or part of the player’s body – to indicate where the player is.
I’m still a little frustrated with the recent issues, but I appreciate the apology. I’m really hoping things will be smoother and easier to use going forward – I’m excited to see improvements!
Thank you.
