As a lifestyle expert with an extensive background in the entertainment industry, I must say that Hugo Weaving‘s decision to steer clear of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is both intriguing and understandable. With his remarkable career spanning across decades, it seems that Mr. Weaving has a knack for venturing into new territories rather than revisiting old ones.
As a connoisseur of captivating narratives, I, Hugo Weaving, have made a name for myself in iconic franchises such as The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Matrix. While these stories continue to unfold on the small and big screens, I am thrilled to announce that I will be stepping into a new role in Season 4 of Apple TV+’s gripping series Slow Horses, taking on the menacing persona of a villain.
In the upcoming series, Robert Aramayo takes on the role of a younger Elrond, a character that John Rhys-Davies played in the films. Interestingly, Rhys-Davies has no plans to watch how his character’s earlier life is depicted in this new production.
In interviews with RadioTimes.com and various other media sources, Weaving expressed his thoughts about his previous roles. He stated, “I haven’t watched it, and I apologize to Robert. Frankly, I’ve spent too much time in Middle-earth, and I don’t feel inclined to revisit that world. I adore New Zealand, as I recently had the chance to return there.”
Reflecting on the matter, “Indeed, there’s an irony here – given the extensive time I’ve invested in a single project, one might expect it to loom large in my mind. Yet, surprisingly, for me, this isn’t a role that carries the same grandeur as it does for fans. Despite Robert’s undeniable talent, I must admit, I haven’t had the chance to watch it yet.”
Weaving portrayed Elrond in five of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth films from 2001 to 2014, except for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The Rings of Power series, which airs on Prime Video, is set thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings, with Aramayo playing a younger version of Elrond.
In the fourth season of Slow Horses, the actor Weaving assumes the part of Frank Harkness. He appears enthusiastic about his new character, describing it as follows: “I believe my character is quite iconic, he can be seen as a classic villain in some aspects, but he’s also complex and multidimensional. He’s dark grey rather than pure black or white. He’s a rebel, a nonconformist, and cold-hearted, yet he retains a certain charm. Over the course of this season, he gradually becomes more menacing.”
In the upcoming season, there’s a brand new ensemble with Ruth Bradley, James Callis, Joanna Scanlan, and Tom Brooke joining the lineup. Some familiar faces from Season 4 are Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott-Thomas, Rosalind Eleazar, Saskia Reeves, and Jonathan Pryce.
Slow Horses Season 4 starts on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, September 4.
