Apex Legends remains one of the top-tier and arguably finest battle royale games, yet finding a portable device that offers a comparable gaming experience has seemed like an unattainable wish. Although the Steam Deck previously supported Apex Legends, it no longer does. While there is an Apex Legends Mobile version, it doesn’t fully capture the essence of the battle royale genre. Installing Windows on the Steam Deck or opting for a pricier Windows handheld device might be possible, but they come with drawbacks-either awkwardness or being a luxury. The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of Apex Legends addresses this issue, making the portable battle royale dream a reality.

Secondly, while the addition of Joy-Con 2 mouse support is appreciated, the default sensitivity is excessively high, necessitating significant adjustments to find a suitable balance. Lastly, motion controls are another issue as they’re activated by default, but can make aiming feel unstable if not properly adjusted for sensitivity.

Initially, playing Apex Legends on Switch 2 might not seem perfect, especially if you’re accustomed to other platforms. However, when compared to the Switch 1 version, it’s nothing short of transformative. The original game functioned, but it felt like a fragile construction held together by threads and hopes. On the other hand, the Switch 2 version of Apex Legends feels like a genuine portable rendition of its high-end counterpart.
