APARTMENT 7A’s Trailer Sets Up a Creepy Prequel to ROSEMARY’S BABY

As a seasoned horror fan who’s witnessed the birth of countless chilling creatures and entities on the silver screen, I must admit, the upcoming prequel to the legendary “Rosemary’s Baby”, titled “Apartment 7A”, has me both intrigued and slightly apprehensive. Having grown up with the original 1968 masterpiece directed by Roman Polanski, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as I watch the trailer for this new film.

This fall, a prequel to the renowned horror classic “Rosemary’s Baby” titled “Apartment 7A” will be streaming exclusively on Paramount+, perfect timing for Halloween. Unlike Rosemary Woodhouse, the main character in the original story, this time it’s Terry Gionoffrio, previously a minor character, who is staying at the infamous Dakota apartments in New York City. The roles of the creepy old couple from “Rosemary’s Baby,” the Castevets, are now played by Diane Wiest and Kevin McNally. To get a glimpse of this spine-tingling new film, you can watch the trailer for “Apartment 7A” right here.

The movie is set in 1965, likely several months before the storyline of “Rosemary’s Baby.” Based on the trailer, Diane Wiest and Kevin McNally seem to perfectly emulate Minnie and Roman Castavet, the elderly couple from Roman Polanski’s original 1968 film. Particularly impressive is Dianne Weist’s spot-on portrayal of Ruth Gordon, who won an Oscar for her role as the nosy neighbor in that movie, who (spoiler alert!) actually worshipped the Devil and was attempting to bring about the Antichrist. It’s exciting to see Diane Wiest back in a horror film after almost 35 years, since her endearing performance as the loving mother in “The Lost Boys.”

As a gamer, I’m pretty excited about “Apartment 7A,” directed by Natalie Erika James from a screenplay she co-wrote with Christian White and Skylar James. Fingers crossed that it lives up to some of the great prequels to classic horror films we’ve been seeing lately, which surprisingly turned out to be more than just money-making schemes. Take “The First Omen” for example, released earlier this year – who would have thought it could be good? But it was, and it left everyone pleasantly surprised. “Apartment 7A” is set to premiere at Fantastic Fest later this fall, followed by its release on Paramount+ on September 27. If the trailer is any clue, it’s going to be a chilling watch.
