Anya Taylor-Joy recently appeared on Seth Meyers’ show to discuss her work and some of the roles she’s best known for.
During a recent interview, Anya Taylor-Joy reflected on her role as Gina Gray in the popular series Peaky Blinders. She described Gina as a highly ambitious and often cruel character who frequently created problems for the Shelby family. Taylor-Joy confessed that Gina might be the most difficult character she’s ever portrayed, largely due to how unlikeable she is.
Despite the actress’s personal feelings about Gina, her family has a different opinion. She shared that her relatives in Argentina are big fans of the show and actually enjoy Gina’s character. She noted to Seth Meyers that she’s always surprised by which characters family members connect with. Gina, who played Michael Gray’s American wife on the show, often clashed with the protagonist, Tommy Shelby, as she constantly tried to relocate the family business to New York.

Meanwhile, Peaky Blinders fans have a new installment to enjoy – Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is now streaming on Netflix, with Cillian Murphy and Barry Keoghan both returning as Tommy Shelby and his son, respectively.

It’s always fascinating to hear an actor’s honest thoughts about the roles they play. Often, the ‘villain’ characters are the most enjoyable to watch, even if the actor believes the character is awful. Anya Taylor-Joy’s ability to truly dislike a character she played so convincingly demonstrates her skill. It’s also amusing that her family seems to prefer her most villainous roles!
What are your thoughts on Gina Gray from Peaky Blinders? Did you enjoy watching her as a villain, or did you find her frustrating, much like the actress who played her?
