Another Simple Favor Director Paul Feig On How He Works With His Actors; ‘I Give Them A Lot Of Leeway….’

Paul Feig doesn’t hold back when it comes to sharing his thoughts openly. Recently, he frankly discussed his working methods with actors in an interview with People magazine, as seen in the latest case of his film “Another Simple Favor.

At the debut screening of the mentioned movie on March 7th (a Friday) at SXSW in Texas, Feig expressed to a media outlet that he enjoys allowing the actors he collaborates with to provide their unique creative input during their joint projects.

In simpler terms, the director expressed that his approach is consistent – when working with actors, he typically allows them a great deal of freedom to make decisions for themselves. To further elaborate on this, director Feig mentioned, “When I collaborate with actors, I provide them with extensive creative control.” Interestingly, as the director was formerly an actor himself, he encouraged his cast members to take charge and decide what they wanted to wear and other aspects of their roles, stating that they should “discover” these elements on their own.

Feig explained, “If I simply tell an actor, ‘Say it like this,’ I’m undermining a vast amount of their talent.” In every project he’s worked on, he’s followed the same approach: presenting the script, then engaging in dialogue with the actors who would respond with suggestions such as, “What about this? What about that?” This interaction is crucial to his collaborative process with each actor.

Additionally, he mentioned the joy of collaborating with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively once more on the follow-up to A Simple Favor. Feig described the experience as incredibly enjoyable.

Moreover, he mentioned that the initial version left a lasting impression on him. He expressed, “It’s been lingering in my mind ever since, something like, ‘Wow, I truly enjoy collaborating with both of them,’ along with the entire cast.

In the sequel of the movie, Feig mused, “We need an element that offers fresh and exciting opportunities for both our established actors and introduces a host of new characters.

In an easy-to-understand manner, the director expressed that he had long dreamt of shooting a movie in Capri. Therefore, it was a “fulfilled dream” for him to have the opportunity to do so.
