The fashion world is buzzing again with the release of a new trailer for “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” Fans are excited to finally get a glimpse of the sequel, and the trailer is already generating a lot of discussion online, especially from those who loved the first movie.
The latest preview of the upcoming film shows Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, reconnecting with Emily (played by Emily Blunt). The two used to work together at Runway magazine, and it’s clear from their meeting that while time has passed, their old relationship hasn’t completely faded. In one scene, Emily acknowledges Andy’s development, telling her, “You’ve changed. You’re much more confident.” But in classic fashion, she quickly adds with a playful jab, “You kept those eyebrows, though, didn’t you?”

The trailer suggests Meryl Streep will reprise her role as Miranda Priestly and Stanley Tucci as Nigel, even showing glimpses of a glamorous event similar to the Met Gala. The plot implies the fashion world has changed significantly since the original movie, which came out almost 20 years ago.
Before the movie trailer was released, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci talked to Vogue about coming back to the world of The Devil Wears Prada. Streep described it as a nostalgic experience, like looking back at a part of your own history. She explained, “It was like going into the back of your own closet and finding something, thinking, ‘I wonder if this still fits?’”
Blunt said returning to play Emily felt comfortable and familiar, like ‘coming home.’ She playfully noted how quickly she slipped back into the character, even joking that Emily fits her a little too well. ‘She’s a bit of a wild card,’ Blunt quipped, ‘Maybe that says something about me!’
The actors also talked about the massive public interest during filming in New York City last summer. Vogue reported that large crowds gathered each day, and social media was filled with pictures and videos from the set. Emily Blunt explained that this level of excitement shows how much the entertainment industry and our culture have evolved. She noted that the intense focus on getting quick glimpses of the movie before its release highlights these changes.
Streep was surprised by the strong positive response to the film. She described the atmosphere as celebratory, especially considering the original movie hadn’t generated much buzz during its making. The excitement was particularly noticeable during the fashion sequences, with fans going as far as to dress like her character, Miranda Priestly.
The new installment jumps ahead to 2026. Miranda is now facing challenges in the shrinking world of magazines, and Emily has risen to a leadership position at a high-end fashion company. Andy comes back to Runway after years working as a journalist, and her experiences show in her style and confidence.
Molly Rogers, the costume designer, told Vogue that Andy’s fashion choices show how much she’s changing and developing as a person. “When Andy returns to Runway after working as a reporter, she’s in a period of self-discovery, both in her career and personal life,” Rogers explained. Anne Hathaway also pointed out that the story itself specifically called for Andy’s style to change over time.
I learned that the costume designers really had to justify how my character, a writer, could afford such amazing clothes. Apparently, she spent years collecting unique pieces through thrifting and traveling, which explained her fabulous wardrobe!
The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada will hit theaters on May 1st, distributed by Disney’s 20th Century Studios. The movie brings back the original cast and adds new stars like Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, and Pauline Chalamet. David Frankel is directing again, with Aline Brosh McKenna returning to write the screenplay. Wendy Finerman is producing the film.
