Anna Maxwell Martin Joins Apple TV+’s ‘For All Mankind’ Spinoff ‘Star City’

Apple TV+ is broadening the world of “For All Mankind” with a new series titled “Star City,” and has secured BAFTA-winning actress Anna Maxwell Martin for a significant role. The forthcoming program offers a unique perspective on the space race, focusing this time on the Soviet Union’s viewpoint.

Star City, derived from For All Mankind, presents an alternate-reality drama, depicting a scenario where the Soviet Union reached the moon before the U.S. Instead of concentrating on American experiences, this spinoff takes us behind the Iron Curtain to explore the lives and challenges of Soviet cosmonauts, scientists, and intelligence personnel. The series aims to shed light on their hardships, sacrifices, and risks in advancing space exploration.

Actress Anna Maxwell Martin, recognized for her exceptional roles in “Motherland,” “Bleak House,” and “Line of Duty,” is set to portray Lyudmilla, a significant character who heads KGB surveillance at Star City—the genuine Soviet space training facility. She will share the screen with Rhys Ifans, who assumes the role of the Chief Designer, possibly modeled after notable Soviet rocket engineers like Sergei Korolev.

The program “Star City” is developed by the talented team behind “For All Mankind,” which includes Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore. Nedivi and Wolpert will take on the role of showrunners, while Moore and Maril Davis from Tall Ship Productions will also serve as executive producers. Additionally, Steve Oster and Andrew Chambliss are also involved as producers. Similar to its predecessor, “Star City” is being produced for Apple TV+ by Sony Pictures Television.
