Angelina Jolie Says Hollywood Is ‘Not the Easiest Place’ as She Advises Young Artists to ‘Live a Full Life’

Angelina Jolie offers insights into the world of Hollywood, entertainment, and the difficulties that come with pursuing a profession within this field.

In a chat with Clayton Davis at the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 3rd, the actress from “Maria” recommended that aspiring artists should aim to lead rich lives beyond just concentrating on their professions.

If you have a deep affection for the stage, consider indulging in at-home performances even in your casual attire – pajamas are perfectly fine! You don’t necessarily need to pursue that professional role. Instead, strive to embody the artist within you, surround yourself with like-minded individuals, and maintain a rich, well-rounded life. Jolie emphasized this message to budding actors, suggesting that a career in Hollywood might not always be a nurturing environment.

The Oscar-winning individual remarked, “It’s not always simple, and it’s not a requirement for a fulfilling life to devote all your energies to it.

Jolie was honored with the festival’s Desert Palm Achievement Award last week.

During her chat with Davis, the actress additionally shared that she jumped at the chance to play Maria once director Pablo Larraín presented it to her.

Jolie admitted, “Someone once made me feel I couldn’t sing well, or they showed disinterest when I sang, which left a lasting impact on me.” She kept this experience hidden, choosing instead to push it aside as a part of her past she preferred not to remember.

Jolie admitted that when Pablo inquired about her singing abilities and requested her to perform, she wasn’t truthful. However, she informed the filmmaker that while no one could emulate the great opera singer Maria Callas, she would strive to depict her accurately in the biopic.

In the movie she appeared in, Jolie received outstanding praise and acknowledgement, even earning nominations for both the recently finished 2025 Golden Globe Awards and the forthcoming Critics Choice Awards.
