Angelina Jolie Reveals Why She Doesn’t Have Lot Of Close Friends; Says She’s Been ‘Betrayed A Lot’

Angelina Jolie prefers to maintain a tight-knit group of confidants. Sharing insights from her life, the Maleficent star admitted that she’s been let down numerous times and as a result, has chosen to forge few deep connections. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie drew parallels between her personal approach and the character Maria from The Sound of Music.

1. In Pablo Larrain’s latest biopic, the actress took on the part of an opera performer. Despite maintaining a small circle of confidants, she acknowledges the significance of friendships as well.

During an interview with a media outlet, Angelina Jolie expressed that she values having only a small circle of friends. She stated, “I don’t typically build those types of connections. Perhaps it’s due to losing my parents at a young age or perhaps the nature of my work.”

It seems she’s describing someone who has experienced betrayal multiple times and as a result, doesn’t form many intimate relationships. However, she does have a select few, including Loung, whom she considers very close, and her mother was one of those. Unfortunately, she lost her mother.

In various stages of her life, the actress who played Maleficent has mentioned having numerous friends. However, she lamented that when she needed them, they were often unavailable or busy. During the same conversation, this mother of six drew a parallel between herself and Maria Callas, stating that the renowned artist had only a few close companions at the time of her death.

 

1. In her own words, she clarified, “I’ve got a few individuals I can rely on. By the way, how did Maria Callas pass away? She was surrounded by two trusted people.” Additionally, the renowned actor shared that she has witnessed the extremes of human nature, experiencing both its best and worst aspects.

Jolie asserted that she has carefully watched people in conflict areas, and she muses that perhaps it’s a fundamental aspect of being human to grasp the reasons behind our actions towards one another during such times, as well as understanding how we manage to endure them. She has never personally faced war or lost someone due to armed conflict.

She added, “However, there are individuals I hold dear who demonstrate immense generosity with little resources, while others with abundant resources remain indifferent.”

In a conversation with the Wall Street Journal, the actress similarly expressed thoughts on her relationships, stating that despite residing in Los Angeles, she scarcely enjoyed a vibrant social scene.

In a professional capacity, Jolie featured prominently in the biographical film titled Maria. This movie had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday evening. Following the screening, the spectators, captivated by her acting in the production, bestowed an eight-minute long standing ovation upon the cultural icon.
