As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for talent and a deep appreciation for the arts, I must say that Angelina Jolie‘s transformation into Maria Callas is nothing short of breathtaking. Her dedication to the craft, her resilience in the face of challenges, and her humility towards her fellow cast and crew make her an artist worth admiring.
In a straightforward and conversational manner, Angelina Jolie acknowledged and appreciated the understanding and support from the additional team members on the set of the Maria film, as she tackled some challenging opera scenes. It’s worth mentioning that Jolie portrays Maria Callas in the upcoming movie.
In the biopic “Netflix’s Maria,” the sounds of Callas’s voice are skillfully combined with Angelina Jolie’s performances. Despite many scenes predominantly showcasing Callas’s voice, it was crucial for Jolie to powerfully sing out in these moments to ensure a convincing portrayal of reality.
Jolie admitted in an interview with Netflix’s Queue that singing opera was challenging because she had to raise her voice loudly, even if she felt unsure about it. In other words, for the performance to come across as authentic, she needed to sing at maximum volume, regardless of her confidence level.
In my experience, I found myself standing before an audience of extras, who were a vital part of the production. Beforehand, I had extended my apologies to them for any imperfections that might occur during my performance as Callas. To my delight, these wonderful people showed such understanding and kindness towards me, acknowledging my effort to bring justice to the role. Madame Jolie was particularly moved by their compassion.
She commented, “They attended several of my performances, and these amazing individuals turned out to be absolutely vital to the performance. On our initial encounter, I remember saying something like, ‘I’m sorry if I accidentally play a loud wrong note.’
The support they provided kept her concentrated on both the narrative and the character’s emotional connections with the viewers. She devoted herself to the part, spending a significant amount of time, approximately seven months, on intensive vocal training.
She shared that these people were genuinely kind, recognizing her efforts even though she wasn’t an experienced opera singer, but just starting out. They found common ground in their endeavors and storytelling. Their empathy and encouragement meant everything to her. Earlier, the actress had spoken about her singing lessons having a profound impact on her, describing it as a deeply healing therapeutic process.
As Jolie shares, this learning and healing journey allowed her to unveil emotions and boundaries that she may have shied away from otherwise. Expanding on her challenging yet rewarding vocal experience, she expressed to Variety, “It’s impossible to sing with all your strength and emotion without facing your feelings and personal constraints.
