Andy Muschietti, who directed The Flash, has hinted he’ll reveal details about his planned Batman movie shortly. However, his careful response suggests the project may be delayed due to Warner Bros. Discovery’s potential sale.
“We Have to Wait a Couple of Months”
At the premiere of HBO Max’s Welcome to Derry, director Andy Muschietti and his sister and producing partner, Barbara Muschietti, told Variety about the progress of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The film was announced in 2023 as part of James Gunn’s new DC Universe plans.
When asked about the movie’s status, Barbara confirmed they were still planning it, but declined to discuss details, saying, ‘The intention is yes, but we can’t talk about it.’
Andy added, “We have to wait a few, a couple of months to start talking about it.”
He then caught himself, saying, “I screwed it already.”
The casual remark quickly led to questions about whether the project would continue, especially with Warner Bros. Discovery potentially being sold and new owners arriving by mid-2025.

Gunn’s Batman Still on Hold
James Gunn’s planned Batman movie for the DC Universe won’t likely happen until after Matt Reeves finishes The Batman: Part II in 2026. This pushes the potential start of The Brave and the Bold to 2027 at the earliest – the same year Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to come out, and after his current contract with DC ends.
So, it looks like James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe are pretty much stalled while Warner Bros. figures out the studio sale. I’m hearing that projects like Sgt. Rock and Swamp Thing are already being pushed back, and honestly, there’s a bit of worry at Warner Bros. about where Gunn’s vision is heading. Peacemaker Season 2 didn’t quite land with audiences, and Superman didn’t perform as well as they’d hoped, so it’s understandable they might be having second thoughts.

“A Couple of Months” Tells the Story
When director Andy Muschietti mentioned “a couple of months,” he probably wasn’t talking about how long it will take to develop the project. He’s likely referring to the time it will take for Warner Bros. to finalize its new ownership or leadership. Once that’s settled, the new team will decide which films and TV shows to continue, revise, or cancel altogether.
For now, it sounds like the DCU Batman is one of many projects waiting for that decision.
