Andy Dick has a knack for finding humor even in scary situations, making light of near-death experiences in a way that’s distinctly his. He recently appeared on the podcast ‘Hate To Break It To Ya’ where he told host Jamie Kennedy about a frightening incident that happened to him on a Hollywood street.
The discussion shifted to when Dick was brought back to consciousness after a drug overdose, an incident that occurred while he was out in public. Surprisingly, he shared that his first thought wasn’t about recovery or a life change—he immediately wanted another drink.
Let me tell you, the story this comedian shared was wild. Apparently, the first thing this guy blurted out when he came to was, “Where’s the vodka?!” Before that, he’d been smoking something he couldn’t even identify on the street, and things quickly went downhill. He collapsed and passed out, and thankfully, people nearby jumped in to help him out. It was a pretty scary situation, honestly.
I recently heard Andy Dick talking on Jamie Kennedy’s show, ‘HTBITY,’ and it was pretty startling. He revealed that after being revived from a drug overdose, his first request wasn’t for help, but for a shot of vodka. It’s a really raw and honest moment, and sheds light on the struggles he’s facing. Definitely a tough listen, but it feels important that he’s sharing this.

A friend quickly ran to a nearby CVS and bought Narcan, a medication that can reverse opioid overdoses. They administered the medication through his nose, successfully counteracting the effects of the overdose.
Once the Narcan reversed the overdose, Andy immediately felt the effects of alcohol. This heavy drinking aligns with his well-known history, as people close to him say he often drinks more than a fifth of vodka daily.
He drinks throughout the entire day, from morning until he falls asleep. A recent health problem motivated him to try and start fresh again.
By early 2026, Andy had finished a 50-day program at a rehab facility. He’s now living in a supportive house where he’s continuing to work on his recovery.
Despite a lot of attention on his personal life, many people fondly remember his groundbreaking work in comedy. He first gained recognition in the early 1990s as part of the cast of The Ben Stiller Show, a series that didn’t last long but became a cult classic.
He’s best known for playing the lovable, awkward reporter Matthew Brock on the popular NBC comedy NewsRadio. He also starred as Owen Kronsky in the ABC series Less Than Perfect, which aired for four seasons.
Dick isn’t just known for his work on television. He’s also created a large body of beloved films and provided voices for many popular animated projects, including the villain Nuka in The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and Boingo the bunny in Hoodwinked!
He’s known for his roles in popular comedies like Road Trip, Dude, Where’s My Car?, and Zoolander. He often worked with some of the biggest names in comedy, including Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell.
Even with recent problems involving legal issues and his health, he continues to work on independent films.
Getting better will be a difficult process, but the performer, who is 60 years old, is focusing on small, daily improvements in his new situation. After watching him for many years, observers are unsure if this experience will lead to lasting change.
Comedy often comes from difficult personal experiences. We’d love to hear your supportive thoughts for Andy as he continues to recover – please share them in the comments below.
