I’m so excited for the next Avengers movie, *Secret Wars*! Everyone’s talking about who might show up, and honestly, I’m really hoping we’ll see Andrew Garfield back as Spider-Man. It would be amazing!
The film was originally revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, with Jack Shafer Waldron first writing the screenplay. In July 2024, the Russo brothers signed on to direct and produce, with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely rewriting the script. Robert Downey Jr. will star as Doctor Doom. Filming is planned to begin in mid-2026 at Pinewood Studios in England and is estimated to last about six months. The movie is currently scheduled to be released on December 17, 2027.
The actors who played the Fantastic Four in their last movie, *Doomsday*, are expected to return. Not much is known about the plot yet, but there’s been talk that Andrew Garfield might be back as Spider-Man.
When MTV asked Garfield about the rumors, he playfully avoided answering directly. He simply said, “You’ll find out! I’m not sure what I’m feeling – maybe frustration? We’ll see.”

Andrew Garfield first played Spider-Man in *The Amazing Spider-Man* (2012) and *The Amazing Spider-Man 2* (2014). Although those films weren’t massive successes, people liked his portrayal of the character, and fans were excited when he reunited with Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire in *Spider-Man: No Way Home* (2021).
Garfield had to actively deceive people to cover up his role, and now fans don’t trust anything he says about being involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Surprisingly, Garfield revealed he’d managed to keep his role in No Way Home a secret for two years while the movie was being promoted.
He admitted to deceiving people online and in person for about two years, and surprisingly, he enjoyed it. He described the experience as similar to the excitement of secretly planning a surprise birthday party – the thrill of keeping it hidden and anticipating the reaction. He liked the feeling of orchestrating something without anyone knowing.
Although it’s not official, many fans are hoping to see Garfield reprise his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the upcoming *Secret Wars* movie. With the Russo brothers directing and the original Fantastic Four actors returning, the film is expected to be a major event for Marvel.
