Andrew Garfield Recalls Intense We Live In Time Intimate Scene With Florence Pugh That Made Camera Operator Look Away

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience in the entertainment industry, I must say that the dynamic between Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh during the filming of “We Live in Time” is truly remarkable. Their ability to create such an intense, passionate scene without any direction from the director speaks volumes about their acting prowess and comfort with one another.

In a recent interview, Andrew Garfield discussed shooting a moving, close-knit scene with his co-star Florence Pugh for the upcoming romantic drama We Live in Time, directed by John Crowley. During this project, Garfield and Pugh collaborated, with Pugh portraying Almut, while Garfield takes on the role of Tobias, her love interest. Keep reading to discover more!

In a recent Q&A at 92NY as reported by Cosmopolitan UK, Andrew Garfield disclosed that in the movie “We Live in Time,” there is an intensely emotional scene between his character and Florence Pugh’s, which was so passionate they didn’t notice when the director said “cut.” The actor mentioned that eventually, the camera operator had to look away, waiting for them to finish.

Garfield initially shared the story by stating, “We were filming our first take for this incredibly personal, heartfelt scene. It was a closed set, so it was just me, Florence, and our courteous camera operator named Stuart. He’s a kind-hearted man who is always polite, considerate, and gentle.

During the making of this intense scene, the actor from The Silence revealed that director John Crowley was in an adjacent room. As their performance grew increasingly passionate, they and co-star Pugh unintentionally went a touch beyond what they planned due to not catching the signal to halt filming.

Garfield expressed, “We’re feeling secure, and we’re just sort of thinking, ‘Alright, let’s move onto the next phase, let this develop, and we’ll keep going.’ He further explained that at some point, he and Pugh seemed to be ‘mentally connecting,’ communicating to one another that it ‘feels like an extended shot.’

When the actor glanced around, he spotted Stuart and their boom operator huddled in a corner. He observed that the actor had the camera beside him and was facing the wall.

Last month, at the premiere of the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival, Florence Pugh praised director Crowley for creating a “safe space” that helped them explore Nick Payne’s emotional screenplay. During a Q&A at the fest, she said, “I wouldn’t have been able to do any of the stuff without the safety. Neither of us would be here without John’s space that he provided for us.”

The movie narrates the story of Tobias (Andrew Garfield) and Almut (Pugh), who cross paths unexpectedly, altering their lives significantly. As we witness moments from their shared journey – falling in love, creating a home, and starting a family – a challenging truth surfaces, causing a tremor in their bond.

Meanwhile, We Live in Time will be released in theaters in the US on January 1, 2025.
