As an ardent cinephile with a penchant for time-traveling romances and a soft spot for powerhouse performances, I can hardly contain my excitement for Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s highly anticipated film, “We Live In Time.” The fact that it will close this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival only adds fuel to the fire!
At this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival, the much-awaited romantic comedy “We Live In Time,” starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, will have its European premiere. This movie, shown in the out-of-competition category, chronicles a heartrending love story that unfolds over a decade, starting with Almut (Pugh) and Tobias (Garfield), two individuals whose lives are transformed following an accidental initial meeting.
“The story unfolds as they share moments of love, home-building, and family development – but a hard truth emerges that shakes their relationship’s core,” the summary goes. They embark on a tough journey with tight deadlines. The family vows to savor each moment and create lasting memories.
Director John Crowley has a reputation for creating content across films, stage productions, and television shows. Most notably recognized for his work on the Academy Award-nominated film Brooklyn and the BBC’s Life After Life series, Crowley first made his mark in feature films with Intermission in 2003. He also directed several episodes of True Detective and Modern Love.
In this movie, we see a reuniting of Garfield and Crowley, who had collaborated before on the film “Boy A.” Notably, Garfield has garnered praise from critics for his performances in “The Social Network” and “Hacksaw Ridge,” even earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for the latter.
In a second instance, he received an Academy Nomination for his performance in Netflix’s tick, tick… BOOM! alongside Vanessa Hudgens. Notably, Garfield is recognized for his role as Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where he starred in The Amazing Spider-Man.
Pugh’s impressive credits span films such as Greta Gerwig’s highly praised Little Women and Lady Macbeth, where she won the FIPRESCI Prize at San Sebastian in 2016. More recently, she starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer, along with upcoming projects like Dune: Part 2 and Don’t Worry Darling.
We Live In Time will hit theaters on October 11.
