As I gush over my latest obsession, The Deliverance – a chilling horror masterpiece that’s left me utterly spellbound – let me share some thoughts on working alongside the living cinematic icon, the incomparable Glenn Close. In our scenes together, she portrayed my on-screen mother, Alberta, and I must confess, it was nothing short of a dream come true to collaborate with her. To work so closely with such a legend was truly an honor, and as if that weren’t enough, she continues to prove why she is deserving of the title – she is simply phenomenal!
The actress went on to say that both she and Close put in a lot of effort during filming, noting that the Heart of Stone actress was so exceptional that their off-screen animosity wouldn’t affect the way their characters showed affection. Day explained that by spending time together, she discovered not only Close as a legendary figure but also as an individual.
As I grew closer to my co-star Glenn Close, I found myself captivated by her vibrant, youthful spirit – a trait I hadn’t anticipated when we first began working together. Initially, I imagined Glenn as someone far more serious and reserved, deeply immersed in her craft. However, the reality was quite the opposite, and I was pleasantly surprised by this delightful discovery.
The actress continued to commend her fellow actor, noting that despite the “Swan Song” performer being deeply dedicated to her craft, she is also a delight to collaborate with, pleasant company, and utterly devoted – qualities she found truly motivating.
The actress discussed her character as well, mentioning that she leaned greatly on director Lee Daniels since he initially intended to convey a story and wished to pay tribute to [Ammons] by emphasizing that “she was often ignored.” But, she also pointed out that Daniels aimed to create his own distinctive tale, which resulted in renaming the character Ebony Jackson. From there, they concentrated on her personal journey.
The movie is based on a real-life incident involving Latoya Ammons’ family, and it tells the story of Ebony Jackson, a lone parent who relocates her family to a fresh beginning in a new house. However, when peculiar occurrences prompt Child Protective Services’ concern and jeopardize her family, Ebony bravely takes a stand to safeguard not just her life but also the welfare of her children.
