This jungle-covered planet is so significant that it shaped the course of the entire Star Wars saga, being the launchpad for the attack on the Death Star that dealt a crippling blow to the Empire. In the second season of Andor, we might just uncover the origins of this vital operational base for the Rebellion.

In the initial episode of Andor‘s second season, Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) makes off with a brand-new TIE fighter prototype. This occurs around four years prior to the occurrences in Rogue One. Upon reaching a hidden planet with thick jungle terrain, he’s swiftly captured by a group of rebels who aren’t familiar with him after being ambushed upon arrival. This plotline persists for much of the first episode, and it is not until the end of the second that Cassian recovers his ship and breaks free. As his TIE fighter ascends into space, we see it departing from the ancient temples, with the ominous red giant planet Yavin hovering overhead. The implication is that Cassian Andor could be the rebel who discovered Yavin, proposing it as a potential base for the Rebellion.

One primary location for the early stages of the Rebellion was the planet Dantooine, where Leia Organa misled Tarkin about their base to save Alderaan. However, by the final season of Rebels, it’s clear that the Rebel Alliance had another base on Yavin 4. It is likely that Cassian informed someone in the Alliance that Yavin 4 would be an ideal, remote location for their operations. The ancient Massassi temples on this planet, long deserted for millennia, could offer the perfect disguise for the Rebellion’s fleet of X-wings and other starships.

Essentially, the series “Andor” season 2 provides an explanation on how the Rebel Alliance learned about the location of Yavin 4, a question that wasn’t crucial for most fans. Given that the final episodes of “Andor” are connected to the timeline of “Rogue One” and “A New Hope”, we might be visiting the jungle planet more frequently in upcoming episodes. Previously, certain Star Wars novels depicted Yavin 4 as the location of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy, but this wasn’t followed through in the sequels.
