‘And We Vote’: Sunny Hostin Claps Back At Tony Hinchcliffe’s Controversial Remark On Puerto Rico

As a proud Puerto Rican with deep roots in my beautiful island, I must say that Tony Hinchcliffe’s recent comment about Puerto Rico was not only distasteful but also disrespectful. Being American means we all deserve respect and dignity, regardless of our ethnicity or where we come from.

Online discussions were sparked over a questionable comment made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe about Puerto Rico. His remark, considered controversial, drew swift reactions from Democrats and notable Latino personalities on social media platforms. Most recently, Sunny Hostin has weighed in on the issue during her show “The View”.

For those not aware, during a rally on October 27 at Madison Square Garden, New York, Hinchcliffe stated, “It might surprise you, but there’s currently a floating mass of trash in the ocean, and it’s often referred to as the Puerto Rico Garbage Patch.” (People magazine)

During Monday’s episode of The View, a controversial remark regarding Puerto Rico was addressed. In this conversation, Hostin, with Puerto Rican heritage, expressed some thoughts about the place she cherishes deeply as it is her family’s homeland.

She responded, “Puerto Rico being referred to as ‘trash’, Mr. Trump? Yet we are fellow Americans. Born and raised in America, we have even served disproportionately more in the military than you did, with your claimed bone spurs.

Her remark pertained to a 2018 disclosure about Trump’s medical exemption from the military due to a diagnosis of bone spurs in his heels during the Vietnam War in 1968, as reported by The New York Times.

Hostin went on to say, “We exercise our right to vote,” further noting that, in contrast to the former president’s focus on size, artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, Luis Fonsi, and Marc Anthony boast a collective following of approximately 345 million Instagram users, significantly more than the 26 million followers amassed by the ex-president.

Hostin mentioned that Trump and his associates had expressed displeasure regarding comments made about their island, and she was alluding to the accumulated waste issues that have persisted since 2016.

She ended by saying that her fellow Puerto Ricans are aware that the garbage collection day is on November 5, 2024. As per People magazine, this was seemingly directed at the former president, who recently told his supporters to cast their votes on January 5, despite the election day being on the date that Hostin mentioned.
