As a seasoned film enthusiast with years of movie-going under my belt, I must admit that Amy Adams’ latest venture, Nightbitch, sounds like an intriguing blend of horror and comedy, a genre combination that has always piqued my curiosity. The fact that it involves dogs adds an extra layer of appeal for me, being the dog lover that I am.
Amy Adams is poised to make her comeback to the silver screen in the forthcoming horror-comedy titled “Nightbitch.” In keeping with its title, Adams filmed this movie alongside canines, and it’s said that she managed to spook them while filming on set.
At the Toronto Film Festival, Adams joined the director of the film for a public event where they revealed that the shooting had to be paused occasionally due to the excitable nature of the 12 dogs involved in the production. The debut screening of the film took place at the Princess of Wales Theater, and after the showing, they talked about various aspects of the movie, including the role played by these canine cast members.
During a chat at the theater, Marielle Heller, the scriptwriter, shared an interesting tidbit: The actor from Leap Year repeatedly rehearsed scenes involving dogs with trainers prior to filming. Yet, when it came to the actual shoot, the dogs were frightened by the actress and frequently tried to approach her aggressively.
In Heller’s words, “Amy is shown descending the stairs amidst all the dogs in the yard. This scene was meticulously rehearsed with the trainers multiple times: Amy would walk on a specific step and then descend, after which the dogs would gather around her. We practiced this repeatedly.
In my own words, I’d say, “Indeed, Amy adopts an act when she engages in that peculiar behavior of staring at the dogs. It seems to startle them, causing them to leap forward in response.
In the upcoming film, Adams takes on the character of a homemaker transforming into a dog-like being. Reminded of her encounters with real canines, she shared an anecdote about nearly skipping the shooting day.
During this time, the dog trainers disclosed that the animals believed the actress had been following them all along. Adams explained that one of the dogs responded as if to say, “That’s not acceptable, that’s not right. It almost spoiled the entire production.” Heller supported Adams’ statement, stating that the trainers said, “Ah, they thought she was stalking them.” The actress’ behavior was unusual and it upset the animals, making it quite a remarkable experience.
The famous actor also mentioned, “We handled it. I had to let go of one thing; it was the one that wouldn’t have turned out well regardless, due to his lack of trust in me after that incident. For the remainder of the night, he got some much-needed rest.
Speaking about the film’s actors, Amy Adams is accompanied by Scoot McNairy, Mary Holland, Zoe Chao, and Laura Meadows.
Nightbitch is scheduled to hit theaters on December 6.
