As a long-time MCU fan and avid follower of James Rhodes’ journey since his humble beginnings as Iron Man’s sidekick, I must say I’m disheartened by the latest news about Armor Wars. It feels like Marvel is tossing a golden opportunity to delve deeper into one of their most intriguing characters.

The future of the “Armor Wars” project is less certain than that of “Blade,” a topic we’ve covered multiple times before. Unlike “Blade,” the fate of “Armor Wars” hangs in the balance, as it was intended to reveal the backstory of “James Rhodes.” This becomes particularly significant following the shocking revelation in “Secret Invasion.

Although the concept was warmly received by fans, it appears that Marvel is uncertain about its direction for this project. Initially planned as a film, then later a series, the latest information suggests that this project may not be moving forward, and it seems Marvel might be subtly abandoning it.

This will, of course, make a lot of the fans unhappy, especially fans of Rhodey, and while the character is probably going to make a return later, his story seems to be crippled by such a decision, which is what an interesting fan theory we have found also states.

To put it simply, James Rhodes’ character arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was intricate. Initially appearing as a secondary character in the Iron Man movies, his role underwent a change, even involving a recast at some point. However, his significance was expected to grow significantly in upcoming films, particularly within the Armor Wars project, which was intended to explain the surprise we witnessed in Secret Invasion.

Currently, it appears that the “Armor Wars” may not materialize, implying that Rhodes might not have his solo project within the franchise. Instead, he’ll continue playing a supporting role. This information has been verified by none other than Cheadle himself.

Given these declarations, it appears that the future could be quite bleak, and enthusiastic followers have started brainstorming ideas about Rhodey’s destiny within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One intriguing theory comes from a well-known rumor source named Comicodigy, which posits:

As a gamer, I’ve got a hunch that Rhodey’s tale might take a different turn from hereon. It seems likely that they’ll simply clarify he was just a Skrull during the post-Endgame era up to Secret Invasion, given that they won’t have the chance to delve into his personal struggles in his own standalone project anymore.

If Rhodey, who plays a supporting role, has a backstory like the one suggested in this theory, it’s quite plausible – though it’s not ideal, we can just cross our fingers that Marvel might delve deeper into Rhodey’s narrative in future stories.
