It’s a fantastic time to be a Gundam fan! With news of a live-action movie starring Sydney Sweeney, the new Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX release, and the 30th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, there’s a lot to celebrate. And for those who collect and build Gunpla models, it’s even better – Bandai Namco has just opened the first permanent Gundam store in the US, called THE GUNDAM BASE, near Chicago.
THE GUNDAM BASE, a paradise for fans of Gunpla (plastic Gundam models), was announced earlier this year. This exciting new store, located at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago in Rosemont, Illinois, will offer a unique and immersive experience for both beginners and dedicated fans—and it’s here to stay! TopMob is thrilled to announce that THE GUNDAM BASE will officially open on December 12, 2025.
This massive 3,000-square-foot store is designed around four main experiences: watching Gundam content, buying models and merchandise, building Gunpla, and learning more about the franchise. It’s a place for Gundam fans to connect with each other and find both common and rare collectibles. As a fan myself, I’m thrilled about this new space, but worried about how much money I might spend!

THE GUNDAM BASE offers more than just rare Gunpla models and merchandise. Visitors can also enjoy playing the Gundam Card Game, take pictures with a huge Gundam statue, admire impressive Gunpla builds, and discover even more exciting experiences.
To mark the opening of the new THE GUNDAM BASE store at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago, Bandai Namco is also starting THE GUNDAM BASE Pop-Up World Tour. This special, temporary exhibit is right next to the main Gundam store and will include impressive Gunpla displays, hands-on workshops, and exclusive merchandise.

THE GUNDAM BASE is Bandai Namco’s newest store dedicated to Gunpla models. Starting in Korea in 2003, this chain has grown to over 31 locations around the world. The new store near Chicago is exciting because it brings me closer to a big dream: bringing the iconic Gundam statue from Tokyo’s Odaiba Bay to New York City, right next to the Statue of Liberty! But for now, I’m just looking forward to seeing everything THE GUNDAM BASE has to offer.
