Last week, rumors started circulating that Jacob Elordi was being considered for the role of James Bond at Amazon Studios. However, a reliable source within the industry is now disputing those claims.
According to Matt Belloni, a former editor at The Hollywood Reporter and entertainment lawyer, there’s currently no casting for the next James Bond movie, no completed script, and no plans to make an announcement about it in the near future.
Here’s what’s really going on.

No Actor Cast As James Bond Yet
According to Belloni, the speculation about Elordi is premature.
According to Belloni, a new James Bond hasn’t been selected, and the script is still in progress with Stephen Knight working on it. They probably won’t pick an actor until spring or summer.
That directly contradicts the viral claims that Elordi has already locked down the role.
If Belloni’s intel is right, Amazon isn’t close to naming its new 007.

Script Still In The Works
The next James Bond movie is being written by Stephen Knight, the creator of the popular series Peaky Blinders. However, according to Belloni, the script is still not finished.
That alone makes a casting announcement unlikely.
Movie studios usually lock down a finished script – or a very refined version – before they choose an actor for a leading role, particularly for big franchises like James Bond.
If the screenplay isn’t ready, the studio likely isn’t ready either.

Why Jacob Elordi Might Not Fit Bond
Belloni and his co-host debated whether Elordi was a good creative fit for the role, suggesting Callum Turner—who is also a potential candidate to be the next James Bond—would be a stronger choice.
Critics have pointed out that Jacob Elordi is very tall – around 6’5” or 6’6” – which is uncommon for a James Bond character. They’ve also noted his existing fame. Additionally, he’s Australian, not British, and might be hesitant to commit to a long-term, exclusive contract with Amazon.
People playfully pointed out that Elordi’s striking appearance would make it difficult to portray him as an undercover agent, as he’d be too noticeable.
As a longtime movie fan, I always find it interesting how James Bond actors are chosen. It’s usually someone with potential, not necessarily a huge star already. Take Daniel Craig, for example. When he first played Bond in Casino Royale, he wasn’t the household name he is today. It’s the same with Jacob Elordi – he’s already pretty famous, which is a bit different than how it usually happens.
I think Jacob Elordi is incredibly talented and all the attention he’s getting – with an Oscar buzz and being a star on Euphoria – is amazing. But honestly, I worry that being so well-known might make it harder for him to truly disappear into a role that’s meant to be a complete transformation. It’s a tricky spot to be in!

Amazon Wants A Younger Bond
According to Belloni, Amazon is looking for an actor between 27 and 32 years old to revitalize the James Bond franchise with a fresh, younger lead.
You know, thinking about how they might cast this, I reckon the studio will probably go for someone talented but not necessarily a huge A-list star. They’ll want an actor happy to commit to a really long contract – maybe one with a few limitations – and someone who’s definitely open to the idea of sequels, spin-offs, and building a whole franchise around the character. That just makes the most sense to me.
Amazon is looking for a long-term commitment from whoever takes on the James Bond franchise, possibly including the creation of related TV shows, meaning the new Bond actor could be committed to the role for many years.
That could make someone already juggling major franchises less appealing.

What Happens Next?
I’ve been following the news closely, and if Belloni’s right, it looks like we’re not going to get any official announcements about who’s been cast until late spring or summer – at the very soonest! I’m trying to be patient, but it’s hard when I’m so excited to find out!
Until then, the Jacob Elordi rumor looks like just that, a rumor.
Amazon is rebooting one of the biggest franchises in film history. They’re unlikely to rush it.
